Last year, we saw Guy Sebastian’s brother Chris take home the title of The Voice Australia.
This year, we may see Jessica Mauboy’s adorable niece, Saraya, continue her aunt’s legacy.
Saraya Mauboy-Hudson is set to take centre stage this week in the hopes to impress the coaches.
But the 17-year-old revealed she didn’t know her aunt would be a coach when she applied for the show.
Speaking to TV WEEK, Saraya said keeping her audition a secret from Jess was difficult.
“It was so hard to keep it from her,” she said. “I just didn’t want to have high expectations from anyone.”
Jess auditioned for Australian Idol when she was only 16, placing second in the 2006 season of the show.
Since then, she’s had multiple-hit albums, two ARIA Music Awards and has been listed in the 100 Greatest Australian Singers of All Time.
Keeping all of that in mind, Saraya knows she has big shoes to fill.
“It was so incredible to watch, to see from where she started and where she is now, and knowing she has always been insanely talented. It was something that I was also nervous to live up to,” she told AAA.
But whether Jess turns her chair around for her niece is yet to be seen.
Watch Saraya on Tuesday night’s episode of The Voice Australia at 7.30pm on Channel 7 and 7Plus.
