Calling It: These Are the Celebrities on The Masked Singer and We Won’t Be Told Otherwise
The Masked Singer has returned, and everyone around the country has got their thinking caps on as they try and figure out which celeb is hiding behind the mask.
We’re three episodes in, and so far, three characters have been unmasked.
Hiding behind Knight was Neighbours star Ryan Maloney, who recently said goodbye to the soap opera.
Caterpillar was revealed to be athlete Lisa Curry, and Thong was actress and Australian Survivor winner Pia Miranda.
As we slowly get through each of the characters, we can’t help but speculate.
Here are our best guesses for who’s hiding behind the masks.
Snapdragon is Anthony Callea
Clues: “I’m Snapdragon and I’ve got the looks and the bite. Snapdragons may not breathe fire, but we are determined. The world of flowers is tough, we compete for our time in the sun but even then, you don’t really see me as I am. That’s why some people call me mysterious. I’m Snapdragon, and it’s time for me to blossom.”
Ok, so to be honest, our guess doesn’t really have anything to do with the clues, but after hearing the pipes on Snapdragon, we’re certain it’s Anthony Callea. The Australian singer-songwriter is definitely good at what he does, and we reckon, Snapdragon has what it takes to win the entire competition.
Now, Anthony Callea has come out and said he is not appearing on The Masked Singer this year, but that is EXACTLY what someone who is appearing on The Masked Singer this year would say.
Blowfly is Anthony Salame or Pauly Fenech
Network Ten
Clues: “I’m Blowfly, you know there’s flies like me all over the world but I’m Aussie as. There’s nothing I like more than cruising in a big V8, or maybe a high-five.”
“Blowflies know the highs and the lows. Those days of innocence are behind me and now I am the possessor of much wisdom. For a Blowfly, I don’t take crap from no one and that’s why I’ll win The Masked Singer.”
“I’m Blowfly and you can find me all over Australia. I fought real hard to get to the top of my little hill, or am I king of the mountain? I’m never afraid to ask the tough questions, or to lend a hand to anyone who needs it. I know I can be loud, maybe a bit wild and it almost cost my family some important jewellery. I’ve spent my time in the sun, including some of my darkest days, but I am a phoenix. I’m the Blowfly and I’m buzzing to win The Masked Singer.”
We know everyone thinks Shannon Noll is hiding behind Blowfly, but we think it’s one of the cast members of Fat Pizza. Not only do the images of pizza circle back to the film, but we couldn’t help but notice the flag of Lebanon. Blowfly is either Pauly Fenech or Anthony Salame.
Zombie is Emma Watkins
Network Ten
Clues: “I’m Zombie, and my performances will live forever. I used to feel entitled but I’m not as green as I used to be… or as orange. Would you care for a baked potato?” she asked.
“I’m not wicked but I’m not magical either. I was once upon a time,” she continued.
“I’m Zombie and I’d rather die than lose The Masked Singer.”
Zombie may be terrifying but we can’t help but have a soft spot for her. The minute she made her debut on stage singing Sweet But Psycho by Ava Max, we instantly felt that the voice sounded familiar. Emma Watkins is a national treasure and is adorable to boot (just like Zombie!). We definitely think the former Yellow Wiggle is hiding behind the mask.
Popcorn is Troye Sivan? (I Doubt It)
Network Ten
Clues: “Hi, I’m Popcorn, let’s have some fun! I went from nothing to huge in the blink of an eye, or that’s how it seems to you, but there’s a lot of work in being an overnight success,” Popcorn said.
“Wikipedia says Popcorn’s ancestors come from Mexico, I don’t think that’s true but maybe it is because I’ve been in a lot of places. It’s hard to know where home is, if I got stuck on a desert island who would I want to be with? Kylie of course, and Lady Gaga. I’m Popcorn, and I’m here to have fun!”
Even though we’re guessing Troye Sivan, we’re not too confident with this guess. What we do know is that Popcorn can sing, so it has to be a musician behind the giant mask.
Rooster is Jonathan LaPaglia
Network Ten
Clues: “I am Rooster, and I’m cocky for a reason.”
“Some people see me as untamed, I’m okay with that. Maybe that’s why I’m so close to doing all the dumb things. Family is important to me, privately and publicly, but I don’t like to do a big song and dance about it. As a child, I learned about attitude. It’s kept me out of the darkest places, except once: a place without a chandelier. I’m the Rooster and I’m the boss of this barnyard.”
Yes, this is a total wildcard, because we have no idea who Rooster is. In all fairness though, Jonathan works for Network Ten as a host for Survivor Australia and Rooster said he’s “untamed”. Take this guess with a grain of salt.
Mirrorball is Samantha Jade
Clues: “I’m Mirrorball, I was born to do what I do and my parents knew it,” she revealed.
“But when the spotlight’s on me, I don’t react. I’m proud and determined, close to grand in fact. Even when everything goes to ashes I go on unharmed,” Mirrorball continued.
“When you’re in the spotlight you can be grilled by total strangers, that’s something you can bank on. I am the Mirrorball and now is my time to shine.”
“I’m the Mirrorball and I hate to be in the dark. Am I dirty? No, that’s someone else, so be cool okay? You don’t think I measure up? I think I do. I was on thin ice for a while, but eventually, you have to do you. As a kid, I was really competitive. As an adult, not everyone likes that but I’m sick of running someone else’s race. I’m Mirrorball and my voice will be heard!”
Look, a lot of people think Jessica Mauboy is Mirrorball, but we beg to differ. We highly doubt her contract with Channel 7 would allow her to appear on a show for Network Ten, so that theory ends there. We think it might be Samantha Jade because that voice can only belong to her.
Tiger is Jason Donovan
Network Ten
Clues: “I’m the Tiger, beautiful but powerful and dangerous. Although I am a Tiger, I do have links to lions. Either way, I love nature,” he revealed.
“The thunder doesn’t scare me, I just block it from my mind. But I do prefer the sun. I’m comfortable in the jungle, or even a nature strip. I am the Tiger, and I will tear this competition apart.”
We already had Ryan Maloney make an appearance on The Masked Singer, so it isn’t too far-fetched to think another Neighbours star is taking part in the competition. Jason Donovan has released six studio albums so far, which have collectively been sold over three million times. So, he can definitely sing!
