Carol, Monica, and Kamala Team Up in the Action-Packed Trailer For “The Marvels”
It’s a Marvel team-up unlike any other. “The Marvels,” heading to theaters this fall, sees Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris’s Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan join forces thanks to some mysterious entanglement happening between their powers. Marvel Studios released the first trailer for the movie on April 11, and it sees all three women struggle with what they might mean to each other under absurd circumstances.
While we don’t know for sure what will happen in the new movie, we do know it’ll start directly after the last moments of the “Ms. Marvel” Disney+ series, which charted Kamala’s heroic origins as Ms. Marvel. But when “Ms. Marvel” star Vellani spoke to POPSUGAR in July 2022, she was very mum on details about the movie.
“I can say that it’s going to star Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau,” she revealed. “And they are going to be a really fun, interesting team-up that we haven’t seen in the MCU yet.” Vellani added, “Also Nia DaCosta, our director, is one of the most incredible humans ever. Period. She really goes searching for nuance in all of our scenes, and it’s just so helpful as an actor. I’m excited for people to see what she brings to the table because I think that she has a really unique voice.”
Ahead, here’s everything we know about “The Marvels” so far, from the first trailer to the stacked cast.

"The Marvels" Cast
“The Marvels” brings together cast from both the MCU films and the Marvel Disney+ TV shows. Larson reprises her role as Captain Marvel; “WandaVision” star Parris returns as Monica Rambeau; Vellani once again plays Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel; and Samuel L. Jackson is back as Nick Fury. Zawe Ashton also appears in the movie’s trailer and she seems to be a leader of the Kree. Park Seo-joon has been cast in an undisclosed role, though he’s seen in the movie’s trailer. And as fans can see from the film preview, some of Kamala’s family, who were first introduced in her TV series, will also appear in “The Marvels.”
"The Marvels" Plot
Though we don’t know many details about the movie, we do know it’ll explore the dynamic between Parris’s Monica and Larson’s Carol Danvers that was teased in “WandaVision.”
“Yes, when Monica was an 11-year-old girl, with her mom and Auntie Carol, they had a beautiful relationship,” Parris told ComicBook.com in 2021. “And so I think what’s been awesome with ‘WandaVision‘ is getting to see Monica grow up, and we haven’t seen her for 20 years plus, or however many, and getting to see slowly, it’s being revealed what her life has been since we last saw her. And so Carol Danvers was a part of her life when we last saw her, and seeing that there is still, there is something there, I think is very exciting.” Parris added that the “Captain Marvel” sequel “gives us space to further explore what might be happening” between the two characters.
“The Marvels” also picks up where the “Ms. Marvel” TV series ended, with all three women entangled and switching places.
"The Marvels" Creative Team
Nia DaCosta, the director of 2021’s “Candyman,” directs “The Marvels,” making her the first Black woman and fourth woman to direct a Marvel Studios picture. The screenplay is by Megan McDonnell, DaCosta, Elissa Karasik and Zeb Wells.
