Everything We Know About “The Summer I Turned Pretty” Season 2 So Far
Amazon Prime‘s long-awaited adaptation of Jenny Han’s 2009 book “The Summer I Turned Pretty” has wowed fans with its stunning northeast beach visuals and the cast’s steamy chemistry. In fact, viewers are already wondering when they might dive into a follow-up instalment. “The Summer I Turned Pretty” book, which kicks off the popular Summer YA series, centres on Belly Conklin (Lola Tung) as her traditional family summer vacations whisk her off to the quaint Cousins Beach, where she comes of age and experiences all the teenage rites of passage along the way.
The teen romance drama earned an early season two renewal before season one even arrived on June 17, causing audiences to wonder if the next batch of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” episodes would be here before the balmy days of 2023. Continue scrolling to find everything we know about season two of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” so far – including what the plot of the sophomore chapter of Belly’s TV life might entail.
“The Summer I Turned Pretty” Season 2 Plot
While “The Summer I Turned Pretty” season one introduced many fresh elements to the story that might have surprised OG booklovers (like romance plotlines for characters that only had a minor presence in the book series), it largely stays true to Han’s book. For that reason, fans can look to the second book in the series, “It’s Not Summer Without You,” for an idea of what’s to come in the tumultuous story of Belly, Conrad (Christopher Briney), and Jeremiah’s (Gavin Casalegno) beachside love triangle.
Season one ends with Belly and Conrad sharing a long-awaited kiss. The only problem? Jeremiah, who had begun pursuing a romantic relationship with Belly, doesn’t know this. Season two will likely pick up with Belly having to choose between her two lifelong friends. Warning: Spoilers ahead!
Though the season one finale offered fans some hope for Susannah after she begrudgingly agrees to receive chemotherapy treatment for her cancer, if the show follows the events of the book series, season two may pick up after Susannah dies. Grieving the loss of his mother, Conrad is more closed off than ever, and as a result, his budding relationship with Belly crumbles.
However, an impromptu summer road trip with Jeremiah takes shape when Belly learns that Conrad has suddenly disappeared. As the trio heads back to the beach house one last time, they come to terms with their inner turmoil and gain some clarity in the process. The question remains: will the second season stick to the book? We’ll have to wait and see.
“The Summer I Turned Pretty” Season 2 Cast
The central characters are all expected to return for season two. Viewers can count on a handful of the original cast to grace our screens again, including Lola Tung as Isabel “Belly” Conklin, Christopher Briney as Conrad Fisher, Gavin Casalegno as Jeremiah Fisher, Jackie Chung as Laurel, and Sean Kaufman as Steven.
Although Cam (David Iacono) doesn’t appear in the second and third book in the series, the TV show may see him return in a new capacity considering the story’s scope has been largely expanded just in season one. And even if the series does follow the second book’s plot closely by having Susannah’s character (played by Rachel Blanchard) die off screen, we could definitely still see the Fisher matriarch in season two via flashbacks.
No official changes to the cast have been announced just yet, so be sure to check out this space as more details are unveiled.
"The Summer I Turned Pretty” Season 2 Premiere Date
There isn’t a premiere date set for season two just yet. However, considering the summer spirit of the series, as well as season one’s summertime premiere, season two will likely follow suit and have a summer release date around June or July 2023.
How Many Episodes Will Be There In “The Summer I Turned Pretty” Season 2?
Barring any major switch-up in the print-to-screen transformation, the second season will likely be the same length as its predecessor, as the source material they are adapting is roughly the same length. “The Summer I Turned Pretty” season one has seven episodes around 40 minutes long each. You can probably expect the same for season two.
