The final season of “Succession” is here. The first episode premiered March 26, and it opened with another birthday party for family patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox). Unlike some of the other parties where we’ve seen him (who could ever forget Kendall’s rap tribute to his dad?), almost all his kids aren’t there. Conor (Alan Ruck) is holding down the fort, since Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Roman (Kieran Culkin), and Shiv (Sarah Snook) are far away, plotting against him. But seeing Logan in his fourth season of scheming can’t help but make viewers wonder about the character’s mortality. The title of the show is “Succession,” after all; in a royal context, succession happens when the head honcho dies. So will Logan die during the season?
In the first episode of season four, Logan does seem slower and unsteadier than he has in the past, and in previous seasons he’s had quite a few health problems. Meanwhile, many fans were convinced that Kendall was going to die in season three as he was clearly struggling with his mental health. Ahead, we’re breaking down the odds Logan or Kendall die this season.
Will Logan Roy Die in “Succession” Season 4?
There is, of course, no confirmation he’ll die, but since the show is ending, it does seem like an obvious bookend for the series. Logan could die near the final episode, and viewers will see his family and the company scramble in the aftermath. Or perhaps he’ll die at the very end, and we’ll never find out what happens next.
Cox, who plays Logan, hasn’t dropped any major clues about Logan’s fate. He told Variety on March 18, “I felt nothing when I played the last scene. Nothing! It was the last scene, finito. Logan absolutely gets what he needs. That’s the great thing about the show. He gets peace, which is good.” Of course, people often say that when someone dies, they’re at peace.
What’s Wrong With Logan Roy?
Logan has had a few health problems during the series. The first season starts with Logan’s 80th birthday party. During the events of the day, Logan has a stroke. He goes into a coma, but survives. Though Logan seems to make a great recovery, he’s still dealing with some lingering issues. There’s also the natural slowness and wear and tear that comes with age. That’s obvious in a season three episode where Logan and Kendall visit Josh Aaronson (Adrien Brody) at his compound. Josh takes them on a long walk, and though Logan says he can handle it, he can’t. He almost passes out, and Josh and Kendall have to stop to help him.
Perhaps Logan’s most famous illness was when, in a season three episode, he gets a UTI so bad that he goes “piss mad.” The UTI puts him in acute psychosis, and once the infection is gone, he’s fine. It’s probably one of his less serious health issues, but we couldn’t leave it out.
Will Kendall Die in Season 4?
Kendall seems to be in a better place mentally at the beginning of season four than he was in season three, where things got so bad, many fans thought he was purposefully trying to drown himself. Though the season ended with the siblings being (once again) betrayed by their dad, he also finally told Shiv and Roman about the man who died in Scotland at Shiv’s wedding, which seems to have lifted a weight off his shoulder. Will his high spirits last? Time will tell.
New episodes of “Succession” air Sundays on HBO and stream on HBO Max.
