Here's Who Will Be in Season 2 of “Shadow and Bone”

Though we don’t have a release date yet for season two of “Shadow and Bone,” we know it’s coming. The Netflix show, based on a pair of book series by Leigh Bardugo, debuted in April 2021, with a renewal announcement in June. Set in the author’s Grishaverse, a world full of magic, betrayal, and fantasy, the series stars an impressive cast of characters that’s only growing in size for season two. Thanks to Bardugo’s books, we have a good idea where season two may lead – most likely with some twists and creative liberties – but we’ll have to wait to see exactly how it plays out. In the meantime, here’s who will be starring in season two.

Jessie Mei Li as Alina Starkov

Jessie Mei Li returns as Alina Starkov, a Sun Summoner with the power to control light. An orphan and a soldier of the First Army, Alina is a powerful character who lets nothing stand in her way. As for Alina’s story in season two, Li shared with Elle after season one, “Because Kirigan’s got his shadow soldiers, and then obviously Alina gets her own army, I’d love to see how that manifests and how that affects her.”

Li was a relative newcomer when she landed her role in “Shadow and Bone,” but she’s since had a role in “Last Night in Soho” and has a part in the upcoming film “Havoc.”

Danielle Galligan has been bumped up to a series regular for season two as Nina Zenik. After quite the roller coaster with Matthias, the two form a bond, which will most likely play out as season two happens.

Freddy Carter as Kaz Brekker

Freddy Carter is back as Kaz Brekker, the ruthless leader of the Crows who is a force to be reckoned with in the streets. Though season two of the show is set to follow the second book of the Grishaverse, “Siege and Storm,” author Leigh Bardugo told Elle that her novel “Six of Crows,” could factor into future seasons. This would mean an expanded storyline for Kaz and the other Crows.

Carter previously had roles in TV shows “Free Rein,” “15 Days,” and “Pennyworth.”

Kit Young as Jesper Fahey

Kit Young’s Jesper Fahey is one of Freddy’s go-to comrades. As a member of the Crows, he may also see an expanded storyline in season two.

Young is a fresh face to TV screens, though he previously worked in theater, including productions of “Julius Caesar” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

Calahan Skogman as Matthias

Calahan Skogman’s character, Matthias, has been upgraded to a regular for the new season, after the witch-hunter aided in Nina’s capture last season. If you’ll recall, though, things took a turn for the better between him and Nina, so we’ll be very curious to see how their new relationship plays out in season two.

Shadow and Bone” is Skogman’s big break, which makes his season two status as a series regular instead of a recurring role that much more exciting.

Sujaya Dasgupta as Zoya

Sujaya Dasgupta will return as Zoya, a Wind Summoner. At the end of season one, after the big battle, she goes back to Novokribirsk to check on her family, and it’s the last we see of her.
