Serena Williams Is Pregnant With Her Second Child: “I Can Stop Hiding”

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian are expecting their second child, the retired tennis icon confirmed on the red carpet at the 2023 Met Gala on May 1. While speaking to La La Anthony for Vogue’s live stream from the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s steps, Williams announced the news that there were “three” people on her and husband Ohanian’s date night. “I’m feeling good now. I can breathe,” Williams said of finally sharing the news. “I can stop hiding.”

The former athlete also posted on Instagram photos of her Gucci look for the evening, and wrote in the caption, “Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala.”

Williams and Ohanian are already parents to daughter Olympia, 5.

The news comes not long after Williams retired from tennis following the 2022 US Open last fall. Leading up to her walking away from the sport, Williams spoke to Vogue about loving being “an incredibly hands-on mother.” “My husband [Alexis Ohanian] will tell you I am too hands-on,” she said. “In five years, Olympia has only spent one 24-hour period away from me. This past year, while I was recovering from a hamstring injury, I got to pick her up from school four or five days a week, and I always looked forward to seeing her face light up when she walked out of the building and saw me waiting there for her.”
