Mother of Dragons No More, Emilia Clarke Joins the Cast of Marvel's Secret Invasion
To say we’re excited for Marvel’s Secret Invasion is an understatement. While details about the show are scarce, the cast is already shaping up to be full of A-list talent; including Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn reprising their roles from Captain Marvel. Hopefully, that means we get to see Nick Fury and Talos exchange witty banter once again. Secret Invasion focuses on a rogue group of shape-shifting Skrulls that have been infiltrating Earth for years and has its comic book origins in 2008’s Secret Invasion eight-issue miniseries.
The MCU has already reworked Skrull’s storyline, making them a more sympathetic group in 2019’s Captain Marvel than they are in the comics, which reasons the Disney+ series won’t follow the comics exactly. While we might not know exactly how they’re adapting the comics, we do know who’s joining the cast. Keep reading to see who’s starring and what characters we can expect when the series premieres in 2022.
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
Jackson is set to reprise the role of Nick Fury. The character’s first MCU appearance was during a post-credits scene for 2008’s Iron Man, while the last time we saw Jackson as Nick Fury was onboard a Skrull ship in the post-credits scene of 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull Talos
Mendelsohn will once again be reprising the role of Talos, a Skrull General who collaborated with Mar-Vell to save his people in Captain Marvel. In 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, it is revealed that Talos had switched places with Nick Fury while the latter is working with the Skrulls on their ship.
Kingsley Ben-Adir
While details for Ben-Adir’s character are scarce, Variety reports he’s been cast as the main villain for the series. It’s unclear whether Ben-Adir’s character will be Kree, Skrull, or something entirely different, although Talos spoke of Kree sleeper cells in Far From Home and the Kree were the villains in Captain Marvel. A possible candidate is Kl’rt, a devoted Skrull Empire solider who eventually became the first Super Skrull in the comics.
Emilia Clarke
Much like Ben-Adir, details about Clarke’s role are currently under wraps. According to Variety, she is in final negotiations to join the series, which would be her first role in the Marvel universe.
Olivia Colman
Variety reports that Colman is also in negotiations to join the Marvel series for an undisclosed role.
