Forget AHS: Evan Peters Is Set to Portray a Real Killer With Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story
It seems Ryan Murphy is just as big a fan of true crime as the rest of us as his newest venture with Netflix will be tackling the story of Jeffrey Dahmer, also known as the Milwaukee Cannibal or the Milwaukee Monster. Titled Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Murphy seems to be keeping it in the American Horror Story family as TVLine recently confirmed that Evan Peters has been cast in the title role. This won’t be the first time Murphy has utilized Dahmer’s story: Dahmer made an appearance in an episode of AHS: Hotel as one of the serial killer’s invited to James March’s (portrayed by Peters) Devil’s Night dinner. Currently touted as a limited series, it’s unclear if Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story will follow the route of American Crime Story and become an anthology following other killers. Ahead, we’ve broken down some of the most important details including the cast, the plot, and the directors.
Who Is in the Cast?
Ryan Murphy favorite Evan Peters will take on the titular role of Dahmer, portraying the infamous killer who was eventually convicted of killing 15 men and boys. Richard Jenkins, best known for his roles on Six Feet Under and Step Brothers, will play Dahmer’s father Lionel, a chemist who taught Dahmer how to bleach and preserve animal bones. Penelope Ann Miller has been cast as Dahmer’s mother Joyce. Rounding out the cast are Niecy Nash as Glenda Cleveland, Colin Ford as Chazz, Dahmer’s neighbor that called the police numerous times about him, and Shaun J. Brown as Dahmer’s last intended victim, Tracy.
What Is the Plot?
Unlike other films and shows about Dahmer, Monster: The Life of Jeffrey Dahmer will focus on the perspective of his victims. It will also look at the incompetence and apathy of the Wisconsin police that allowed Dahmer to continue is killing spree unchecked for years, including the time he was almost caught then let go because he didn’t appear to pose a threat.
Who Is Directing?
Janet Mock, who also worked with Murphy on Pose, will write and direct a number of episodes. Joining her is Carl Franklin, who will direct the pilot and previously helmed four episodes of Netflix’s Mindhunter.
Who Is the Creator?
Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story comes from the mind of Ryan Murphy, who will serve as cocreator alongside frequent collaborator Ian Brennan. Brennan and Murphy additionally worked together on Ratched, Hollywood, The Politician, Glee, and Scream Queens.
