It’s official, Hamish has been crowned the winner of “Rush Australia” 2023.
Speaking to POPSUGAR Australia ahead of tonight’s Grand Finale, Hamish was excited, but said that the win still felt “a little bit surreal”.
“I mean, it still hasn’t kicked in yet,” he said. “I think it’ll probably settle in after the episode airs, but yeah, it’s pretty good, that’s for sure.”
After a jam-packed season of adventure and testing limits, it all came down to a heart stopping grand finale.
Sofia, CK and Hamish were the three remaining contestants, and each gave it their all in an epic series of challenges. Every single one of them were more determined than ever to walk away from the show with the grand prize of $100,000 and two first class tickets around the world.
Across the country, fans held their breath as they watched their fave contestants engage in adrenaline pumping missions for a shot at the prize money and the title of “Rush Australia” winner.
The “Rush Australia” 2023 Final Mission
Each of the contestants soldiered on through three challenges across the final destination — South Africa. They each had to face their fears in a true test of skill and courage.
The Bungee Jump and Race to Mossel Bay
The first challenge was to bungee jump off the world’s highest commercial bungee jump from Bloukrans Bridge. Sofia admitted that this was one of her biggest fears — but she wasn’t going down without a fight. Hamish, on the other hand, told POPSUGAR Australia over the phone that he “absolutely loved” it.
“I was super proud of Sofia and CK,” Hamish said of his fellow finalists. “They both have a fear of heights, so both of them were really freaking out. But I was so proud that they did jump.”
Then, each of them followed a series of clues to make their way from one hedge maze to another. After some complications with navigation and being in the wrong location, they ended the first day of missions in a race to get to a hotel in Mossel Bay.
Hamish arrived there first, Sofia followed him and CK came through just after, but he felt disappointed in himself.
Skydiving and the Hike to Table Mountain
The final tests to find the winner of “Rush Australia” 2023, involved skydiving in Cape Town and a demanding hike to the top of the famous, Table Mountain.
Audiences were on the edge of their seats as they watched Hamish, CK and Sofia dash to the top and then back down in a cable car to find the winning flare at the Nelson Mandela statue in Noble Square. It took one last effort for Hamish to convince passengers in a car to give him a ride, while CK rushed down in a taxi. The two were arrived within minutes of each other. Sofia, on the other hand, was the last to make it to the top of the mountain.
In the end, only one could take home the win. But before Hamish was whisked away in the final escape vehicle — a helicopter — David Genat surprised each of the remaining “Rush Australia” contestants with a visit from their family.
Surrounded by their nearest and dearest, David lit up the flares to reveal Hamish as the winner of “Rush Australia” 2023.
Congratulations Hamish!
