Robert De Niro is a dad of seven! The 79-year-old star revealed the news while chatting with ET Canada on May 8 about his new film “About My Father.” During the interview, host Brittnee Blair said to the star, “I know you have six kids,” and De Niro jumped to correct her.
“Seven, actually,” he revealed. “I just had a baby.” His reps also confirmed the news with the outlet. De Niro, who split from wife Grace Hightower in 2018, did not reveal who the mother of the child is. He has most recently been linked to girlfriend Tiffany Chen, and the pair have been photographed on date nights. Reps for De Niro did not immediately respond to POPSUGAR’s request for comment about the identity of the child’s mother.
De Niro shares two children – Drena, 51, and Raphael, 46 – with his first wife, Diahnne Abbott. They divorced in 1988. De Niro has twin sons Aaron and Julian, 27, with his former girlfriend Toukie Smith. He married Hightower in 1997 and they share Elliot, 25, and Helen, 11. Julian has followed his father’s footsteps into acting: Last year he appeared in Showtime’s “The First Lady and he is currently on Broadway alongside Oscar Isaac and Rachel Brosnahan in the Tony-nominated play “The Sign In Sidney Brustein’s Window.”
In “About My Father,” De Niro plays a “cool dad” alongside comedian Sebastian Maniscalco as his son. He told ET Canada that he’s more of an “okay” dad than a “cool one.” “My kids disagree with me at times, and they’re respectful,” he said. “My daughter, she’s 11, she gives me grief sometimes, and I argue with her. I adore her, but, you know. And my youngest now, that’ll be more to come. But, that’s what it is.”
On top of his role in “About My Father,” De Niro is also scheduled to appear in the new film “Killers of the Flower Moon.” The film, which once again reunites the actor with director Martin Scorsese, will debut at Cannes this May before a domestic release this fall.
