Ever since Pitch Perfect premiered in 2012, fans have been eager to see more of the Barden Bellas, and luckily, it seems like the cast feels the same way. Pitch Perfect 2 dropped in 2015, followed by Pitch Perfect 3 in 2017, but now the question is: will we be getting a fourth installment in the franchise? Apparently, if it was up to the cast members, we would. When asked by Entertainment Weekly in August 2017 – before the third movie even hit theaters – about the possibility of Pitch Perfect 4, Anna Kendrick was all for it. “Hell, yeah!” she said. “We’d do them forever.”
Fans really got their hopes up after Rebel Wilson posted an Instagram photo on Sept. 30, 2018, showing her, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow, and Chrissie Fit all holding up four fingers, especially since she captioned the pic with four heart emoji. When Wilson appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show a month later, DeGeneres asked Wilson if the IG pic meant a Pitch Perfect 4 was in the works, and the actress played it coy. “I mean, I can’t say anything officially, Ellen,” Wilson said. “But we just love each other, all of us girls.” Then she added, “I’ll be filming another musical film in the next 12 months. I can say that,” though it’s totally possible she was referring to Cats.

Wilson was far less subtle when asked the same question at the 2018 Los Angeles Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. According to Vanity Fair, Wilson all but said a fourth movie was on its way. “There’s some things in the works. I’m sure Universal is going to hate me for saying this,” she reportedly said. “All us Bellas love each other. We just want to work with each other. The girls are just awesome.” However, Snow later suggested that Wilson was just teasing fans. During a December 2019 appearance on Good Morning America, Snow said she hadn’t heard anything about another sequel. ” . . . we just put out the fours [in the Instagram picture] because we wanted a fourth one and then Rebel kind of teased it, like there was gonna be a fourth one, but she doesn’t know either,” Snow explained.
While other cast members have expressed their interest in a fourth movie, it seems as though that interest is merely hypothetical. In August 2019, Anna Camp told Entertainment Tonight that she’d be “down” to do a fourth movie, and she gave an even more enthusiastic response to the question of whether the series would continue during a June 2020 appearance on the Collider Ladies Night podcast. “We wanna do one!” she said. “We all would be like, ‘Come on!’ We wanna do it until we’re old and we’re acting in a retirement home.” It seems as though Hailee Steinfeld would also be open to reprising her role, though during a November 2019 appearance on Watch What Happens Live, she said she’s heard nothing about a fourth. “If there is a fourth, that would be news to me, and very exciting news,” she said.
The cast may be totally down to reunite the Bellas, but Universal Studios hasn’t expressed the same enthusiasm – at least, not publicly. After all, the last time we saw the Bellas, they were performing on their USO farewell tour before finally settling down and starting their post-Barden University lives. Back in April 2017, screenwriter Kay Cannon told E! News that our chances of seeing the Bellas back together is slim to none. “I think it’s the end of the Bellas as we know them. If there’s a Pitch Perfect 4, it will be a new crop,” she said. Cannon added that it seemed to her the actors “just know” the third movie was the end of an era. “I had the feeling when I visited set,” she said. “It was like they were full of tears and like, ‘How much longer can we be singing a cappella?'”
Of course, things may have changed since then, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed!
