Phoebe Waller-Bridge has become something of a national treasure. Her work on “Fleabag” – the hit show she wrote and featured in as the lead character – turned her into a household name. With its comedic genius and moments of breaking the fourth wall, the series was quickly praised for the way it dealt with complex topics like grief, and even won the Golden Globe Award for best television series and best actress for Waller-Bridge in 2020.
The TV mogul went on to write and produce the series “Killing Eve,” which was based on novels by Luke Jennings. She also served as the showrunner for season one of the TV thriller. Waller-Bridge additionally held a pivotal role in the creation of the screenplay of the James Bond movie, “No Time to Die.” Her work saw the franchise moving away from the sexist depiction of female characters it had long been known for, and instead showcased strong women, ultimately developing the whole storyline for the movie. “She gave us an interesting point-of-view for several of the characters,” Michael G. Wilson, the producer for the movie, said to BBC Radio 4. “It’s unfair to think of her as a female writer … She contributed to the whole plot of the film.”
She starred in “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” and is working on a remake of “Tomb Raider”. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Waller-Bridge will work behind the camera as both a scriptwriter and executive producer on the reboot. Unlike the previous versions, the upcoming project will not be a movie like other installments in the franchise, but rather an Amazon series.
Whilst Waller-Bridge has become known for her tell-all, self-deprecating characters, her personal life is kept a little more under wraps than her career. In fact, she told Vogue in 2019, “I’m much braver in my writing life” than her personal life.
Having been married once and divorced, she is now dating Oscar-winning filmmaker Martin McDonagh. Read on to discover more about her relationship history.
