Like so many, Max Krapivsky faced a few hurdles over the different stages of COVID restrictions. In February 2021, as Melbourne was facing yet another lockdown, Max and his fiancee Simmone were in no mood to cancel their wedding again. So, the couple organised their nuptials in four hours, with 80 of the closest friends and family in attendance.
It may not have been the dream wedding they envisioned, but Max said it was perfect in every way.
Now, as he enters the MasterChef Australia kitchen — and more specifically, his first pressure test — he’s relying on that can-do attitude to get him out of this sticky situation. This was Max’s fourth time applying for the cooking competition. Despite coming close last season and going on to compete in the second chance cook at Judges Auditions, Max narrowly missed out.
The osteopath is no quitter, though, so instead of feeling defeated, Max has used the past year to refine his skills, and it’s clearly paid off. The 31-year-old shared a sweet video of the moment he told his wife he was going to compete on MasterChef, and BRB, I need to go dry my eyes.
The osteopath firmly cemented his place into this year’s Top 24, and he hopes to make it all the way to the Grand Finale. While he’s inspired by chefs Matty Matheson, Thomas Keller and Massimo Bottura, at the end of the day, he credits his father and Russian grandmother Rita for igniting his passion for food.
