He was a fan favourite during last year’s season of MasterChef Australia, and now, Tommy Pham is back in the kitchen once more. Keen to prove his chops, this superstar cook is ready to impress the judges with his mouth-watering Vietnamese cooking.
Born and raised in Sydney, Tommy graduated from university and went on to build a career in IT before relocating to Japan. After living and working in Tokyo for two years, Tommy realised how much he loved teaching and spending time with children, which led to him becoming a kindergarten teacher.
Of course, his passion for cooking was always there, with his mum teaching him the basics of Vietnamese cooking. Mostly self-taught, Tommy feels a deep connection to his roots when eating and making his favourite meals.
Citing his food heroes as Adam Liaw, Luke Nguyen and Anthony Bourdain, the cook hopes to one day produce a cooking and travelling show in Vietnam.
Currently, his time is spent with his wife Wendy and their two-year-old son Miles, while brushing up on his dessert skills so he can remain strong in the competition.
Admitting to still being in game mode from last year, Tommy knows his weaknesses and this time, he’s not taking any chances.
There’ll be some tough competition this year, from former winners Sashi Cheliah to some of the fresh new faces entering the kitchen, but Tommy is determined to win.
