Australia fell in love with Aldo Ortado on season 10 of MasterChef Australia and was devastated when his time in the kitchen was cut short. Thankfully, he’s returning to our screens once more, and this time, he’s in it to win it.
Growing up in the Italian province of Bacoli, Aldo counts sharing food as one of his fondest memories from childhood. Every day, his Nonna would cook up his favourite meals featuring fresh ingredients and a whole lot of love.
For Aldo, family is everything, and ever since COVID turned the world upside down, he’s been longing to return to Italy and see the ones he loves most.
In 2009, after leaving school, Aldo moved to Rome and studied statistics. Four years later, he came to Australia for a new start. Working for an event and catering business as a food attendant, before taking on the role of restaurant manager at a local Italian restaurant, Giro Osteria, Aldo’s life has also featured food.
In 2014, Aldo met his now-husband Mark, with the pair tying the knot two years ago. After taking a shot at MasterChef Australia, Aldo went on to forge a successful career in television, hosting a number of cooking segments.
But while he’s living the dream, Aldo longs to return to the MasterChef kitchen, and to have his name engraved on the coveted trophy.
Aldo one day hopes to open his own cafe and restaurant, focusing on classic southern Italian food. He wants to emulate his childhood and wants guests to feel as if they’ve arrived home.
MasterChef Australia: Fans & Favourites premieres Monday, April 18 on Channel 10 and 10Play.
