On Wednesday night (Nov. 24) Love Island Australia crowned its winning couple. Out of the three that remained, Australia chose to vote for Mitch and Tina. The pair hit it off in the villa and slowly, their feelings for one another grew deeper.
Not only did they walk away with the title of “Winner” but the pair received $50,000 to split among themselves. POPSUGAR Australia caught up with the happy couple and asked them the pressing question: “Are you guys still together?”
Here is what they had to say.
POPSUGAR Australia: The big question is, are you guys still together?
*Laughs*
Mitch Hibberd: Yeah, we are! You’d hope so!
Tina Provis: That would be a really good scoop, wouldn’t it!?
PS: Did either of you ever expect that you would go on to win the show?
TP: I definitely did not expect it at all! By the time we got to the end and it was the final three, we all felt like winners. You completely forget that there’s that prize in the end!
MH: I feel like, because you’re so close to everyone in there as well, you’re just so happy for each other. Especially the final three, we’re so close with the final two couples that you’re so happy to see each other happy. It’s a really weird thing that money is involved, but it’s a game I guess. To be fair, by the end everyone was just so content in their relationship.
PS: Tina, when you opened the $50,000 envelope, did you think even for a split second that you wouldn’t share the prize money with Mitch?
TP: At the time I was going to make a joke out of it but thought it was probably not the best timing *laughs*. I was always going to split it, there was never any possibility that I was going to take the $50,000 and run!
PS: How did the opportunity to compete on Love Island Australia come about?
MH: For me, I was just living my life in Melbourne and saw that there was going to be a season 3 and it was a bit of why not? Then all of a sudden, I was in quarantine for the show. When I went in there, obviously I was looking for something serious, but you know there are going to be challenges thrown at you. It is a TV show, people are going to try and make good TV, so there’ll be a lot of challenges along the way but I knew it was an opportunity of a lifetime. I couldn’t be happier with how it all worked out.
TP: My friends and family, and even people at work have always said I’ll be perfect for the show. Which I always either took as a compliment or just how bad my dating life has been. And I actually did put an application in a couple of years back but I got through the audition and thought, “Oh nope! I’m not going to get in” but then this year it came along, and thought why not! I was still single four years on, and look where I am now!
PS: Mitch, you mentioned on the show that Tina is your first girlfriend ever. Did you think you would find your special someone before you entered the villa?
MH: I was very hopeful, but I also knew there would be a lot of challenges thrown my way. I knew that it would be tough but I was very hopeful. I couldn’t have asked for anything more from the journey, I got exactly what I was looking for.
PS: What was the biggest highlight for both of you during your time on the show?
MH: The biggest highlight was probably the helicopter date when we made things official. That was a big highlight, and I guess it’s not boring but it’s a little bit of the expected answer. So I might go with something a little bit different. I reckon sleeping on the day bed together. That was a real defining moment for us and it really was when things started to turn. It was pretty special, we were waking up early in the morning watching the sunrise together and no one was awake. So we shared some pretty special times together in there, so I’d probably say it’s between making it official and sleeping on the day bed.
