It’s been Australian television’s night of nights and this year, Sonia Kruger has taken out the most prestigious award of the night — the coveted Gold Logie. Her win holds a special significance. It marks the first time since Carrie Bickmore’s win in 2015 that a woman has claimed the accolade.
Taking the stage to accept her prize, Sonia was overwhelmed and overjoyed.
“Oh, thank you so much. I cannot believe that. I have to compose myself, I am not used to being on TV Week. It is really… This is so weird,” Sonia started her speech.
The “Dancing With the Stars” host continued: “. To have you present it Darryl, I have been so lucky I have worked with some absolute legends in the business and some great people.
“And my fellow nominees and I joked with Hamish, we are the same age and Mark Clements is here tonight, and I said, Mark, ‘who did you vote for?’, and he said, ‘Well, Sonia, I think people are a little over Hamish’. I said ‘No, surely no, he is the odds on to win’. And he said, ‘No, frankly I am hoping that he will leave the agency so I can concentrate all of my efforts on you Sonia’.”
Sonia went on to deliver a funny, heartfelt acceptance speech. She started off with the crews she works with across the shows she hosts.
“There are so many people I want to thank. I want to thank all the people who work on ‘Dancing With the Stars’, all the people who work on ‘The Voice’, all the people who work on ‘Big Brother’,” Sonia said.
“My family… their names escape me,” she joked. “They know who they are, that’s good. No! I’m joking! My mum, Deb, Happy Birthday for tomorrow, my brother, of course, Craig, my daughter Maggie, and if my Dad was here, he would just be so proud, and this is really for him.”
“Backstage there’s this mural that says, ‘Hosting is not about what you do, it’s about how you make other people feel’. And I thought, ‘That’s so true’,” she said.
“And tonight, you guys, all your support, you’ve made me feel so good,” she added.
Kruger was up against some stiff competition this year. The top contenders for the award included 2022 winner Hamish Blake, Julia Morris, Leigh Sales, Mark Coles Smith, Osher Günsberg, and Shaun Micallef.
Throughout the evening, the spotlight was on the stars as they graced the stage to accept their well-deserved awards. It was a night of celebrations and accolades. The most popular and outstanding talents in Aussie TV were recognised for their exceptional contributions to the medium.
Aside from the awards, it was an unforgettable night of glitz and glamour. Our favourite Aussie TV stars strutted their stuff on the red carpet at The Star Sydney. It set the stage for an epic celebration of talent and entertainment.
