It's Official – Meet the Cast of Disney's Live-Action Little Mermaid Movie
Disney is getting ready to take us under the sea with its upcoming live-action version of The Little Mermaid. Rob Marshall, who previously worked on Mary Poppins Returns, is set to direct, with Lin-Manuel Miranda and original composer Alan Menken on board for the film’s music; and during Disney’s Investor Day on Dec. 10, we finally got to meet the actors who will play the memorable characters from the 1989 animated movie.
Singer Halle Bailey has been cast as Ariel, and Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina, and Melissa McCarthy will all be joining the reboot. See the rest of the cast ahead!

Halle Bailey as Ariel
The 20-year-old singer and actress, who is one half of the pop-R&B duo Chloe x Halle, is confirmed to star as Ariel in the live-action flick. It will be a massive breakout role for Bailey, who stars with her sister on Freeform’s Grown-ish.
Melissa McCarthy as Ursula
The comedian has been confirmed to play the tentacled villain.
Awkwafina as Scuttle
The Crazy Rich Asians actress is taking on the role of the friendly seagull, Scuttle.
Jacob Tremblay as Flounder
The 14-year-old actor, who gained critical acclaim for his role in Room, will take on the role of Ariel’s fish friend, Flounder.
Javier Bardem as King Triton
The No Country For Old Men actor will play the ruler of Atlantica.
Daveed Diggs as Sebastian
The Hamilton actor is joining the cast as Sebastian.
Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric
After a long search, the British actor has been cast as the charming Disney prince. The 25-year-old previously starred in A Dog’s Way Home and can currently be seen on the BBC miniseries World on Fire.
Noma Dumezweni
The former Harry Potter and the Cursed Child star is playing a brand-new character in the film, although details about her role are being kept under wraps.
