Between Janelle Monáe and Dave Bautista, the Knives Out 2 Cast Is Looking Pretty Damn Good
Not a day has gone by since the release of 2019’s Knives Out that I haven’t thought about Chris Evans and his cable-knit sweater. With Deadline reporting that the film’s sequel is set to begin filming this summer in Greece with Dave Bautista, Janelle Monáe, and Edward Norton at the helm, we can’t help but wonder who will get the standout meme-able moment this time around; our money is currently on Bautista thanks to his tiny glasses from Blade Runner 2049.
Both original Knives Out writer and director Rian Johnson and star Daniel Craig are also returning, so you know it’s going to be a wild ride. Details about the sequel are scarce, but we do know it will see Benoit Blanc solve a “mystery revolving around a large cast of suspects.” Ahead, you can see what we do know about the film’s already-stacked cast.
Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc
Craig is set to reprise his role as Detective Benoit Blanc, aka “The Last of the Gentlemen Sleuths.” At this time, Craig is the only actor from the first film that will be returning for the sequel. We are definitely ready to see what mystery he will soon uncover and just how snarky he can get with his Southern drawl. If you can’t wait until then, the 53-year-old English actor can next be reprising the role of James Bond in the upcoming No Time to Die.
Janelle Monáe
On May 12, Deadline reported that Monáe would be joining the cast in an undisclosed role. While we don’t know whether or not she’ll be one of the many suspects Craig’s Benoit Blanc is investigating, we do know she’s going to do an excellent job. The singer’s most recent acting roles include Veronica Henley/Eden in Antebellum, Dorothy Pitman Hughes in The Glorias, and Jacqueline Calico/Alex Eastern on Homecoming.
Edward Norton
Much like Monáe, Norton’s role is currently under wraps. However, we’re confident he’ll be able to pull off pretty much anything Rian Johnson throws at him.
Dave Bautista
Bautista hasn’t said much about his Knives Out 2 character, but he has said that it’s going to be different from characters he’s played before. “If you’re familiar with the first Knives Out, you know it wasn’t deeply emotional, it’s not a deeply dramatic film,” the 52-year-old shared with Polygon. “But it was such a quirky film, and it was so interesting. It had such a great ensemble, like a talented cast. And Rian, I’m desperate to work with. So it’s a lot of those factors. Although it’s not down that dramatic path that I really love, and that I’m pursuing, I feel like this is a huge statement, because of the caliber of the people that are involved, and how successful the first film was.”
