It Looks Like Kate Middleton Got Her Hands on Even More of Princess Diana's Sapphires
Kate Middleton has shown off plenty of stunning jewelry gifts from the royal family – including that incredible sapphire engagement ring passed down from Princess Diana. But that stone isn’t the only sapphire Kate has in her collection. When she and Prince William met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine and First Lady Olena Zelenska at Buckingham Palace, Kate was in some brand-new blues: her fit-and-flare, belted dress, and a gorgeous drop necklace that looks remarkably similar to a pair of earrings Princess Diana was gifted on her wedding day from the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia.
We always enjoy when Kate debuts new items alongside her most classic, like the Gianvito Rossi Praline pumps she styled with the outfit. But the buzz gets particularly loud when Kate’s wearing new jewelry with a rich history. If you backtrack on Diana’s Saudi sapphire suite, made by Asprey, you’ll learn that she regularly wore the pendant necklace and large studs, but accessorized with the double-drop earrings for an occasion at The Hotel Hyatt in Melbourne, Australia, which she attended with Prince Charles in 1988. Kate appears to have separated and transformed one or both of those pieces, affixing them onto a beautiful necklace to match her earrings, which might also be sapphires and diamonds from the original suite. Ahead, check out the jewels on display, then see how both Diana and Kate wore them in their own way.
