First Lady Jill Biden Brings Her Glam Granddaughter Finnegan to King Charles III’s Coronation
First Lady Jill Biden had a glamourous plus one for the coronation of King Charles III on Saturday, May 6. While President Joe Biden didn’t attend the historic event, his wife and his granddaughter, Finnegan Biden, were on hand for ceremony.
Finnegan is the 23-year-old daughter of Hunter Biden and his ex-wife Kathleen Buhle, and one of Jill and the president’s seven grandchildren. She also has an older sister, Naomi, who was married on the White House lawn in 2022, and a younger sister Maisy. Additionally, Hunter shares son Beau with his second wife Melissa Cohen, and a daughter with Lunden Alexis Roberts.
Both the First Lady and Finnegan chose simple, but gorgeous outfits for the coronation. Jill arrived in a light blue, skirt and jacket two-piece, which she accessorized with gloves and a matching bow in her hair. Meanwhile, her granddaughter wore a stunning pastel yellow dress and cape, along with a yellow floral headpiece. The colors of their outfits were fitting since they were seated next to Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska, and yellow and blue are the colors of the Ukrainian flag.
On Friday, Finnegan and her grandmother met with the UK’s First Lady Akshata Murty at 10 Downing Street. They also attended a pre-coronation reception at Buckingham Palace, where Finnegan met Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales.
The First Lady attended the coronation and the events leading up to the ceremony as her husband’s envoy. While the President was invited to the event, he declined to go. However, it was not a snub on his part, as the BBC reported, it’s a long-standing tradition that U.S. presidents do not attend British coronations, despite the close relationship between the countries.
Even though President Biden didn’t attend the ceremony, he did send Charles well wishes prior to the big day. “The President congratulated the King on his upcoming Coronation,” the White House previously said in a statement, per the BBC. “The President also conveyed his desire to meet with the King in the United Kingdom at a future date.”
