Jessie J Poses Topless In a Powerful Tribute to Her Postpartum Body

Jessie J welcomed her baby boy in May with her boyfriend Chanan Safir Colman. Whilst she’s shared the name of her one-month-old on social media, and opened up to her followers about how her birth “went in a completely different direction” than she had planned, she’s decided to go one step further, and get real about her postpartum body.

Taking to Instagram on 15 June, the “Price Tag” singer shared a topless picture with her followers, in which she can be seen standing in black underwear and showcasing her figure just “11 days after giving birth” in a bid to help other new mums feel seen. “I’m writing this for myself as well as anyone else that needs to read this,” she begins her caption.

Going on to list all the amazing things her body has done in order to bring her son safely into the world, she writes, “your body was a home for someone else to live in for 9 months”, and adds that organs have been moving to accommodate the space of a growing foetus. The singer also reminds new parents to “be easy on yourself, your body AND your mind” and wants them to “remember you are in recovery and don’t forget to also remind those around you.”

Instead of reflecting negatively on postpartum bodies, the star urged fans to “celebrate their new body.” Aiming to dispel the incorrect idea that new mums bumps disappear moments after having a baby, and the pressure to “spring back” to shape, she continued: “It HAD to change. It will be bigger and smaller in different places. IT IS BEAUTIFUL and NATURAL.” The star went on to share her own postpartum journey, writing: “[My body] has given me the most magical roommate inside and outside of my body. And when it’s ready and able to change again it will. Whatever that looks like. I’m here for it.” She concluded with a take away message for her fans: “You are doing amazing Mamma. You the MVP.”

Of course, this is not the first time that the star has posed topless in the name of self-love during her pregnancy journey. She previously posed topless to take a cast of her baby bump, and showed a slew of “belly-out” maternity looks. The star also joins a number of other celebrity parents like Molly-Mae Hague and Stacey Solomon who have opened up about their postpartum bodies. This 2023, we’re taking a leaf out of their books, and being kind to our bodies, too.
