Jessica Mauboy has finally said “I do” to her long-time partner Themeli Magripilis in the singer’s hometown of Darwin.
The couple reportedly tied the knot in a small church ceremony in Darwin on Saturday, July 9, according to the Northern Territory Times. Darwin is where both Mauboy and Magripilis grew up, and where their extended families live.
Afterward, Mauboy and her now-husband celebrated their special day surrounded by 300 of their closest family and friends at the Mindil Beach Casino.
Mauboy spoke to Who earlier in the year about her wedding plans.
“I always knew I wanted to have the wedding in Darwin,” she said. “We are just making sure everyone can be there, but are close to locking in a date!”
The two had been planning their wedding since getting engaged in Greece in 2019. They’re yet to share any photos from their ceremony, but fans were given a sneak peek when Tim West shared a look at the venue on Facebook.
“Congratulations Prince and Princess of Darwin, a truly beautiful union,” Swan captioned the picture of the marquee.
Mauboy and Magripilis have been together for over a decade, first meeting in a Darwin nightclub when she was just 18.
“I’m the one who made the move and ended up getting his number from a really good friend,” said the singer. “I texted and said ‘I’d really like this to work, how about you?’ and I didn’t think I would do anything in my life like that,” she revealed.
Mauboy’s music career was just kicking off, so the two of them were in a long-distance relationship for the first seven years.
She then travelled to Greece with Themeli and his family, where they got engaged.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
