BTS has been nominated for hundreds of awards throughout their career. While their music has been getting recognized in South Korea since their debut in 2013, it wasn’t until four years later that they began to really make waves in the United States. It all started in May 2017 when the septet took home the award for Top Social Artist at the Billboard Music Awards. The achievement catapulted BTS to even greater fame in the Western music industry because, the following year, they not only earned another BBMA, but an American Music Award, People’s Choice Award, iHeartRadio Music Award, and more. Since then, BTS has only added to their extensive award show collection in the U.S.
While BTS has so much to be proud of, the group has said one goal they haven’t checked off their list yet is winning a Grammy. They’ve been nominated by the Recording Academy a few times in recent years, but haven’t come out on top just yet. After the group came out empty-handed at the 2022 Grammy Awards, Jin told reporters during an April 10 press conference that BTS would continue chasing their goal. “This year won’t be our last chance, but we can try anytime we want in the future,” he said. “So, we’ll do our best”
Following the release of their “Proof” compilation album in June, reports came out that BTS had submitted four of their songs for Grammy consideration, making fans hopeful 2023 would be the year the group would finally win their first Grammy. Now that the nominations for the 2023 Grammy Awards have finally been revealed, it seems BTS’s dream of winning a Grammy is closer than ever because they’ve been nominated several times over.

2019 Grammy Awards
In 2019, BTS’s third studio album, “Love Yourself: Tear,” earned a nomination for Best Recording Package at the 61st annual Grammy Awards. The nomination technically went to the group’s art director, HuskyFox, and not BTS, but it was still a huge moment for the group because it marked the first time the Recording Academy recognized one of their projects.

2021 Grammy Awards
BTS didn’t earn their first official nomination until two years later at the 2021 Grammy Awards. Their first English-language single, “Dynamite,” which was released in August 2020, scored a nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. The achievement made BTS the first K-pop act to ever be nominated for a Grammy. Although the group lost to Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s “Rain On Me,” their nomination paved the way for even more Grammys success in the future. It’s worth noting BTS also made Grammys history that year by becoming the first Korean act to ever perform at the Grammys (albeit virtually from Korea amid the COVID pandemic).

2022 Grammy Awards
The 2022 Grammy Awards proved to be another eventful night for BTS. The group was once again nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. This time, their single “Butter” was recognized in the category. In the end, Doja Cat and SZA’s “Kiss Me More” took home the prize. After attending the Grammys on April 3, BTS filmed a livestream during which they reassured fans they could always try to win the award again next year. “Honestly, we got to watch so many amazing performances,” V said about attending the Grammys. “So this has been extremely motivating for us.”
Meanwhile, Suga reminded everyone that BTS already had a lot to be proud of. “I don’t think we need to feel sad about this at all, guys. What we’ve done is already amazing,” he said.
He’s right. BTS performed their single “Butter” that night – their first live performance at the Grammys – and the performance was ranked 13th on Rolling Stone’s list of best Grammys performances ever.

2023 Grammy Awards
No one can stop BTS once they put their mind to something. After telling fans they would try to get another Grammy nomination the following year, the Recording Academy announced on Nov. 15 that BTS had earned three nominations at the 2023 Grammy Awards. This marked the first time BTS racked up more than one Grammy nomination in a single year.
“My Universe,” which BTS released in collaboration with Coldplay in September 2021, was recognized for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Meanwhile, their single “Yet to Come (The Most Beautiful Moment),” which dropped on June 10, scored a nomination for Best Music Video. BTS was also nominated for Album of the Year as featured artists on Coldplay’s ninth studio album, “Music of the Spheres.”
Altogether, BTS has snagged five Grammy nominations over the years. Will BTS finally earn their first Grammy win in 2023? Make sure to tune into the 2023 Grammy Awards on Feb. 5 to find out.
