"Alien"

“Alien,” released in 1979, is one of the greatest horror films of all time. Directed by Ridley Scott from a screenplay by Dan O’Bannon, it follows the crew of a spaceship who accidentally run afoul of an alien. The film is anchored by Sigourney Weaver’s iconic performance as Ripley. It’s a must watch for any horror fan – and a perfect rewatch if you haven’t seen it in a while.

"Barbarian"

“Barbarian,” released in 2022, mixes comedy and humor to create a very weird movie. In the film, written and directed by Zach Cregger, Georgina Campbell’s Tess stays in a rental house where something very, very weird is going on in the basement. Justin Long plays the house’s landlord, a demented Hollywood producer who’ll do anything to make a few extra dollars.

"Crimes of the Future"

David Cronenberg’s “Crimes of the Future” is seriously demented. The 2022 film stars Viggo Mortensen, Léa Seydoux, and Kristen Stewart. Mortensen and Seydoux are performance artists who do surgery on their audiences, and Stewart investigates just what’s going on. This science-fiction film looks at a bizarre future, masterfully blending body horror and social commentary.

"Infinity Pool"

Get ready to be really freaked out. Brandon Cronenberg’s 2023 film “Infinity Pool” stars Alexander Skarsgård and Mia Goth as husband and wife who end up on a very demented vacation. The movie is visceral, gory, and bizarre in equal measure.

"Fresh"

In 2022’s “Fresh,” Daisy Edgar-Jones‘s Noa meets the very handsome Steve (Sebastian Stan) at the grocery store. But what seems like an ideal meet-cute turns into a nightmare as she uncovers that his real interest is in harvesting human meat. The movie, directed by Mimi Cave from a screenplay by Lauryn Kahn, uses horror to comment on modern dating.

"Prey"

“Prey,” released in 2022, puts its own twist on the Predator franchise. In the movie, directed by Dan Trachtenberg and written by Patrick Aison, Amber Midthunder plays Naru, a Comanche warrior who needs to protect her tribe from a predator. Set in 1719, it blends historical fiction with all the thrills of the Predator films, breathing new life into old tropes.

"Censor"

“Censor,” released in 2021, follows Enid (Niamh Algar), a film censor in 1985. She’s intent on cutting violent content out of all films. But when a man murders his wife and child, the tabloids link it to a film Enis approved, and Enis is sent down a dark and disturbing path. The psychological horror film is directed by Prano Bailey-Bond from a screenplay by her and Anthony Fletcher.

"Possessor"

“Possessor” is the second movie on our list from writer and director Brandon Cronenberg. The 2020 psychological horror film follows an assassin (Andrea Riseborough) who performs her hits by possessing other people’s bodies. But when she possesses Colin (Christopher Abbott), he starts to fight back. The movie’s ensemble also includes Jennifer Jason Leigh and “Games of Thrones”‘s Sean Bean.

"The Free Fall"

In 2021’s “The Free Fall,” Sarah (Andrea Londo) wakes up in a house she doesn’t recognize with a husband she doesn’t remember. Slowly, she pieces her memories back together as she fights against the house and the people there. The horror drama is directed by Adam Stilwell and written by Kent Harper.

"Titane"

Julia Ducournau’s 2021 film “Titane” mixes psychological and body horror to make a completely unique film. Agathe Rousselle plays Alexia, who was in a car crash as a child and now has a titanium plate in her head. As an adult, she’s become a serial killer with a fetish for cars, and she goes on a truly deranged journey as she tries to escape the cops who are looking for her.

"Trespassers"

Two couples head to a stunning vacation house in hopes of working on their relationships. However, romantic issues take a backseat when a mysterious stranger shows up at their door. The 2018 film is directed by Orson Oblowitz from a screenplay by Corey Deshon.

What if your father wasn’t who you thought he was? That question drives this dark thriller about a teen who discovers his dad is keeping a terrible secret.
