Henry Cavill Confirms He’s Returning as Superman After “Black Adam” Cameo
Henry Cavill is finally putting his Superman cape back on. After making a cameo in the end credits of “Black Adam,” the actor confirmed in an Instagram video post on Oct. 24 that he is returning to portray the iconic hero.
“I wanted to make it official that I am back as Superman,” Cavill said in video, which features a photo showing him decked out in his full Superman regalia. “The image you see on this post and what you saw in ‘Black Adam’ are just a very small taste of things to come. There’s a lot to be thankful for, and I’ll get to that in time, but I wanted to thank you guys most of all for your support and your patience. I promise it will be rewarded.”
Cavill played Superman in 2013’s “Man of Steel” and reappeared in the role in Zack Snyder’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” in 2016 and “Justice League” in 2017. Speculation about his return has been bubbling for years, especially when Cavill told the Hollywood Reporter in 2021 that “the cape is still in the closet.”
Since “Justice League,” Cavill has played the lead in Netflix’s “The Witcher” in 2019 and Sherlock Holmes in 2020’s “Enola Holmes,” among other roles. But now he’s officially returning to the spotlight as Clark Kent once again. The Superman project he’ll star in hasn’t yet been named, though there has been speculation about a “Man of Steel 2.” The project could also feasibly be a follow-up to “Black Adam” – and it sounds like Dwayne Johnson, at the very least, would be on board for that. On Oct. 10, Johnson revealed that he hopes his character, Black Adam, will have the chance to fight Superman at some point. “Absolutely,” he told Cinemablend when asked if he wanted a movie that pits the two ultrapowerful fighters against each other. “That is the whole point of this.”
