If you’re anything like us, you’re already analysing every lyric on “Harry’s House.” The highly anticipated album from Harry Styles, released on May 20, has already garnered an influx of attention from fans, especially regarding its less-than-subtle risqué lyrics and the catchy beats that accompany them. Outside of it being Styles’s latest release since 2019’s “Fine Line,” “Harry’s House” is stirring up buzz due to his relationship with Olivia Wilde, which fans haven’t quite gotten over since the couple made their romance public in January 2021.
One song, in particular, has many wondering if Styles is referencing his girlfriend and if the song itself is about Wilde. “Cinema” is a chill, funky-pop song that features lyrics detailing Styles’s love for an unnamed woman. Judging by the lyrics themselves, however, fans are pretty convinced the song is an ode to Wilde. Let’s dive into the lyrics of “Cinema” and how the pair’s relationship seems like it’s undeniably the focus of the song.
Harry Styles’s “Cinema” Lyrics
In their entirety, the lyrics for “Cinema” read:
INTRO
You got, you got the cinema
VERSE 1
It’s you
And I’m not getting over it
Darling, is it cool
If I’m stubborn when it comes to this?
I guess we’re in time
If you’re getting yourself wet for me
I guess you’re all mine
When you’re sleeping in this bed with me
CHORUS
I just think you’re cool
I dig your cinema
Do you think I’m cool too?
Or am I too into you?
Tell me what you want and you got it, love
I want all of you, gimme all you got
That’s cinema
That’s cinema, uh-huh
VERSE 2
It’s you
I don’t know why but it feels so right to me
Something in the way you move
I like it when you dance with me (I just think it’s)
You all the time (Time, time)
In doses at night (Night, night)
No roof on the drive
Dust off the high
And go to sleep (Go to sleep, go to sleep)
CHORUS
I just think you’re cool
I dig your cinema
Do you think I’m cool too?
Or am I too into you?
I just think you’re cool (Co-cool)
I dig your cinema (Cinema)
Do you think I’m cool too?
Or am I too into you? (Cinema)
OUTRO
Cinema
You got, you got
I bring the pop, you pop
You got, you got
I bring the pop
You got, you got the cinema
I bring the pop to the cinema, you pop
You got, you got the cinema
You got, you got the cinema
I bring the pop to the cinema
You pop when we get intimate
You got, you got the cinema
You got, you got the cinema (Cinema)
I bring the pop to the cinema
You pop when we get intimate (Baby, you’re cinema)
You got, you got the cinema
You got, you got the cinema
I bring the pop to the cinema
You pop when we get intimate (Baby, you’re cinema)
You got, you got the cinema
You got, you got the cinema
I bring the pop to the cinema
You pop when we get intimate (Baby, you’re cinema)
You got, you got the cinema
You got, you got the cinema (Cinema)
I bring the pop to the cinema
You pop when we get intimate
Is Harry Styles’s “Cinema” About Olivia Wilde?
Fans of Styles are divided about the meaning behind “Cinema,” but many are speculating that the song is about Wilde, and here’s why. The two met back in 2020 when Styles started working on Wilde’s film “Don’t Worry Darling.” In the film, Styles plays the role of main character Jack Chambers alongside Florence Pugh, who stars as his wife, Alice. In an interview with Howard Stern on May 18, he opened up about his experience filming “Don’t Worry Darling,” telling the radio host (via The Cut), “I had a wonderful experience being directed by Olivia. Acting is kind of uncomfortable at times; you have to trust a lot. Being able to trust your director is a gift. That was very helpful.”
Connecting the dots between the little Styles has revealed about Wilde and her acting career, the “As It Was” singer references Wilde’s directing, singing, “I just think you’re cool / I dig your cinema.” Styles also points to their intense connection on and off screen with the lyrics, “Tell me what you want and you got it, love / I want all of you, gimme all you got / That’s cinema.” He goes further in describing the details of their love life with the steamy lyrics, “You got, you got the cinema / I bring the pop to the cinema / You pop when we get intimate.” Styles also dipped into some NSFW lyrics about their sex life, but we’ll leave that for you to swoon over.
Following the release of “Cinema,” Twitter users immediately shared their opinions on the song and its meaning.
The exact meaning behind “Cinema” has yet to be revealed by Styles himself. Judging by his several references to love and romance in “Harry’s House,” as well as his relationship with Wilde, it seems like there is no denying that she was, in part, the inspiration for the lyrics.
