Hailey Bieber Says Bullying Makes Her Scared to Have Kids: “I Literally Cry About This All the Time”
In 2018, a 21-year-old Hailey Baldwin married 24-year-old Justin Bieber just one month after they got back together following an on-and-off romance. The overwhelming narrative was about how quickly the “Peaches” hitmaker, now 29, was able to move on from his ex Selena Gomez. The scrutiny still follows his wife some five years on and has even impacted her thoughts about becoming a parent one day.
Both Gomez and Hailey Bieber have been vocal about the intense fan hatred aimed toward them following their alleged feud on TikTok. But now, Bieber has revealed that the vitriol she’s been subjected to online has affected her opinion on starting a family.
“I literally cry about this all the time!” the model and beauty brand owner told The Sunday Times Style when asked about her plans for the future and whether children are in the cards. “I want kids so bad but I get scared. It’s enough that people say things about my husband or my friends. I can’t imagine having to confront people saying things about a child.” She added: “We can only do the best we can to raise them. As long as they feel loved and safe.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Bieber addressed the viral social media moment which saw her papped in a “Nepo Baby” T-shirt in January 2023. Hailey is the daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin and the niece of Alec Baldwin and, as such, she’s found herself a prominent name in the discourse around nepotism in Hollywood. Marrying Justin Bieber has even earned her the somewhat sexist moniker “nepo wife.” “That was me being, like, ‘I’m very aware of the situation . . . I’m going to wear it loud and proud because you are already labeling me as such and it’s true,'” she said of the fashion statement.
Despite her famous connections, Bieber has also made her own name for herself via modeling and launching a successful skin-care line, Rhode. The beauty brand – which is synonymous with dewy skin – is finally being rolled out in the UK this May. As she focuses on her business, here’s hoping the online bullying stops and her future plans are no longer impacted by cruel online comments, but empowered by the passion she has for her projects.
