Mark Your Calendars With an XOXO! The Return of Gossip Girl Has Just Been Announced
Good morning, Upper East Siders! Do we have news for you.
The Gossip Girl reboot is officially returning for season one, part two, and it can’t come soon enough, in our opinion!
Like everyone else, we’ve been absolutely obsessed with the new take on the 00s teen hit, and we can’t wait to dive back in.
If you haven’t been tuning in, the new series has introduced us to a new generation of NYC’s most fashionable and iconic private school teens. It’s nine years after the original Gossip Girl site went dark.
Now, Gossip Girl is an IG account (obvs) and the premiere flipped the whole original series on its head when it told us exactly who GG was in the first ep. No Dan Humphreys shenanigans this time!
There are six eps of the first season remaining, and they’ll continue to explore how social media–and NYC–have shifted and evolved since the original series, and the impact it has on teens today.
For fans of the show who can’t get enough, the good news just keeps piling up, as the premiere date comes after the excellent news that the show will return for a second season next year.
In fact, showrunner Joshua Safran hopes that the new Gossip Girl will be around for just as long as the original series’ six-season run. In an interview with Elle, he said: “I don’t do anything without knowing if there’s more to it, because I didn’t want to wrap it up.
“It’s Gossip Girl, and the hope is, you get more Gossip Girl. What’s the reason for us doing it again, if there’s not going to be more, right? I have three seasons [planned so far], I could tell you right now. We didn’t know it was going to happen for six seasons the first time. But right now, I definitely have three in my head.”
The series, which boasts a far more diverse cast than its predecessor, stars Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak and Savannah Lee Smith, and Kristen Bell–the iconic voice of Gossip Girl herself–is back for the reboot. Love that for us!
“Trigger warning, followers,” Gossip Girl says in the trailer for part two, while Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings” plays over shots of all the luxury we expect from NYC’s wealthiest, most elite teens. “This post will not be pretty.”
“Thanks for your secrets, your lies, and all the tips you’ve given me,” she continues. “This story is anything but over.”
Part two will premiere on BINGE on November 25th, which is more than enough time to catch up on part one, or rewatch it so that it’s fresh in your memory for the next instalment!
