If an ordinary person were to enter the “Gladiators” arena, they would be pulverised into pulp. Arrow would shoot them down in a wrestling match, and Cyclone would spin past them in a race. Moreover, “Gladiators” features a contender named Maximus, a man who can dominate just about any physical challenge thrown his way.
Fortunately, “Gladiators” is a series that doesn’t pit myths against everyday Aussies. Instead, its cast faces off against individuals of similar strength. Across a gauntlet of physical trials, these two groups battle for glory.
According to Liz Ellis, the co-host of “Gladiators”, the stakes of this series couldn’t be higher. In a phone call with The Latch, she said that if a Challenger beats enough Gladiators, they might be hired in the following season.
“The big prize at the end of the series is not just the trophy, it’s the ability to become a Gladiator next year,” Liz said. “So the contenders become the Gladiators. That was a real driving force for them. They put everything on the line. And when they get to the end of the eliminations, you know that they have nothing left to give.”
So, while Maximus could easily defeat your uncle, can he beat the contenders? Or will his muscles go down swinging? Here is everything that we know about Maximus.
Who Is Maximus on “Gladiators”?
On “Gladiators”, Maximus is portrayed by Kwame Duah, a 30-year-old based in Adelaide. Kwame is best known for winning the 2017 Musclemania Professional Championship in Las Vegas, making him the youngest person ever to achieve Musclemania professional status. He has secured numerous State, National, and International titles.
In his role as Maximus, Kwame will be a combatant with swagger, intimidating his opponents with his size. He’ll flex and pose, warning them that he is ready for a fight, fully aware of his beastly presence and the fear he instills in others.
According to Kwame’s Instagram, he’s super excited to introduce us to Maximus.
“There’s NOTHING Maximus can’t bench!” Kwame wrote in one post.
“Maximus is pure MUSCLE,” he wrote in another.
We can’t wait to learn more about what Maximus brings to the ring. What’s more, we are very grateful that we’re not fighting him ourselves.
“Gladiators” is set to premiere at 7.30pm on Monday, January 15, only on 10 and 10 Play on Demand. Miss its premiere? Catch up on 10 Play.
