After months of headline-making incidents, “The Flash” star Ezra Miller is now seeking treatment for “complex mental health issues,” according to a statement from the actor obtained by Variety.
“Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,” Miller said in the statement. “I want to apologise to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behaviour. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.” Miller’s representatives did not immediately respond to POPSUGAR’s request for additional comment.
Miller was cast as DC’s the Flash/Barry Allen in 2015, making their first appearance in the franchise in 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” before appearing in “Suicide Squad” and “Justice League.” They are set to reprise their role in a standalone movie that’s already wrapped filming, but the project’s future seems uncertain.
The actor was arrested multiple times in Hawaii for disorderly conduct, harassment, and assault in March and April. Most recently, Miller was charged with felony burglary in Vermont for allegedly breaking into a house while the owners weren’t home to steal liquor, according to an Aug. 8 report from Variety. Miller will be arraigned in that case in September.
Miller’s arrests have prompted calls to recast Miller as DC’s the Flash, with fans advocating for The CW’s the Flash, Grant Gustin, or “Not Okay” star Dylan O’Brien to replace them. Still, DC has made no official indication that it plans to remove Miller (who also stars as Credence Barebone in Warner Bros.’s Fantastic Beasts franchise) from the role. Rather, the studio reportedly supports Miller’s decision to seek professional help at this time, according to a source close to Warner Bros. (via Variety).
“The Flash” is set to hit theatres on June 23, 2023.
