The new “Dungeons & Dragons” movie is big news for the freaks and geeks of the world – literally. Three stars of NBC’s beloved, albeit short-lived, sitcom reunited in a new teaser for the movie, released March 28. In the clip, adult versions of John Francis Daley’s Sam Weir, Martin Starr’s Bill Haverchuck, and Neal Schweiber’s Samm Levine play D&D together, not realizing their campaign has gone on so long that they’re now adults. At the end of the clip, they joke that they never, ever want a movie version of their favorite game. Of course, the joke is that Daley directed and cowrote “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” and it’s a sweet callback to their characters’ love of the roleplaying game in the series.
The second trailer for “Dungeons & Dragons” was released Jan. 23, and it shows off the film’s rousing cast – which includes Chris Pine, Regé-Jean Page, Michelle Rodriguez, and Hugh Grant – with lots of actions and also lots of jokes. In the footage, Pine’s character, Edgin the Bard, reveals that he accidentally helped a very evil person steal something, and now he’s pulling a group together to steal it back.
The first trailer was released back in July 2022 during the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con. The two-minute-and-15-second clip – filled with fire-spitting dragons, dangerous creatures, and unknown evil – is just a small glimpse of what viewers can expect when the movie premieres next year. Though it appears to be a spellbinding film with danger at every turn, Pine, during a Comic-Con panel, said it has a lighthearted tone and draws inspiration from “Game of Thrones,” “The Princess Bride,” “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” and “The Goonies,” Variety reported.
