Will There Be a “Cobra Kai” Season 6? Here's What the Creators Have Said
“Cobra Kai,” the karate-themed drama comedy, has been a go-to for many on Netflix the past few years. With season five premiering on Sept. 9, fast binge-watchers are probably already wondering if there is a season six to look forward to.
Season four of the sports dramedy, starring Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso and William Zabka as Johnny Lawrence, ended with a nail-biting finale featuring the All Valley Karate tournament and the characters dealing with the aftermath. Filled with twists, the season closed on a cliffhanger about the characters’ futures, which set up the transition into season five perfectly.
“Cobra Kai” Season 5 Plot
After season four’s All Valley tournament results, season five continues following Terry Silver (played by Thomas Ian Griffith) as he builds the Cobra Kai practice. The season also continues Johnny’s storyline of pivoting his attention to his relationships over karate.
Will There Be a “Cobra Kai” Season 6?
A sixth instalment of the hit TV show hasn’t been officially announced, and it’s too soon to predict whether the “Karate Kid” adaptation will be renewed for another season or not.
Fans may remember that Netflix announced the filming of season five before season four was even released. Around that time in January, “Cobra Kai” cocreator Jon Hurwitz told Collider, “We’ve never said from the beginning how many seasons there would be. I think we always viewed it as at least six was sort of in our heads . . .” Josh Heald, another one of the show’s cocreators, continued, “We still have an endgame plan. We’re still writing beyond Season 5.”
But just because the showrunners are interested in developing one more season of the dramedy, it isn’t a guarantee. Hurwitz even tweeted after the Collider interview to clarify. “We were misquoted in saying there would be six seasons,” he tweeted on July 16. “We’ve often said that we hoped there would be at least six seasons. But we’ll see.”
Netflix will likely wait for viewership numbers and audience reviews before deciding whether to renew it for a sixth season.
