From Alex Nation to Nick Power: A Guide to Bachelorette Brooke Blurton’s Former Flames

Finally, the announcement has been made that former The Bachelor and Bachelor In Paradise star, Brooke Blurton, will be taking the leading role of The Bachelorette Australia in 2021.

In an incredible and positive move for the franchise — Blurton will not only be the first Indigenous Australia to helm the series but she will also be the very first pansexual Bachelorette.

“I am so ready for this. I’ve done it twice before and now, having the opportunity to choose my person and who I want in my life, is a truly unique and special experience,” she said in a statement. 

“My perfect person is someone that loves me for me. I hope they offer shared values and compassion for others. All the dreamy things! I’m so excited and hope that I finally find that person I’ve been waiting for.”

Blurton first rose to fame on Nick “Honeybadger” Cummin’s season in 2018 and famously quit the series before heading to Fiji for BIP — where she and Alex Nation shared a kiss on screen — the first kiss between two women on a reality series in Australia.

“That part with Alex, I just think she never really was genuine with her feelings and I could really read through that,” Brooke told WHO.com.au during an interview in 2019. 

“I just don’t really value people in my life like that. There’s no bad blood, but I am all about people who bring value into your life and I just feel like I had to let that part of my life with Alex go.”

Straight after the finale ended in 2019, the youth Aboriginal risk worker announced that she had “found love” with a “beautiful beautiful man who I can not express how friggen lucky I am to have in my life,” she wrote in a caption accompanying a series of photos of the pair.

“You have no idea how relieved I am to openly and honestly say this out loud! Thank you for all that have been on my journey to find love..

“So happens that I had already met him… Six years ago… it just took a reality show for him to notice me.”

Blurton and Nick Power — a fellow Perth local and venture partner at an advisory group — dated until February 2020, when she announced their split on social media.

“If you haven’t noticed, I have been MIA on social media,” she said in a video on her stories. “I’ve been grieving a breakup and I just haven’t been able to build up the courage to speak about it online and openly just yet.” 

She continued: “I’m trying to do this without crying. From the bottom of my absolutely broken and shattered heart, I just wanted to thank you guys for the messages. I think I’m going to log out of Instagram for today. I have some really exciting things coming, so I should probably look forward to those. I’ve tried to do this without crying but yeah, thanks guys. I’ll be back to my normal, positive self in time.” 

Blurton also used the opportunity to raise awareness for suicide prevention, something she is deeply passionate about.

“I know there are so many more important issues out there and there is one thing, in particular, I do want to talk to you guys about, if you’re an OG follower, you’ll obviously know that I’m hugely passionate about suicide prevention,” she said.

“This post is simply an ask from you guys, my followers, the people who support me. If you could help someone today or another day, would you? Start a conversation. Spark a small reminder to check in with someone. Help me, help end youth suicide.” 

More recently, Blurton was linked to musician GFlip and prior to her time on Cummins’ season, she had “two serious relationships with guys” and “two serious relationships with girls”.

“So my longest was with a guy, and that was for three years when I was quite young,” she told OK! Magazine before her first stint on the show. “It is a concern when you’re in a relationship with a guy and you tell them that you also like the same sex. They get a little bit, I guess, insecure in the relationship.”

Before entering the mansion, she also dated a guy who was “judgemental” and “uncomfortable” about her sexuality.
