After a 4-year hiatus, K-Pop group Big Bang is finally making a comeback. On Feb. 7, Y.G. Entertainment announced the boy band’s plans to release a new song this coming spring, according to the “Yonhap News Agency.” Big Bang, which debuted back in 2006, went on a break in 2018 as members enlisted in Korea’s mandatory 2-year military service. The entertainment agency also revealed T.O.P, the band’s main rapper, ended his exclusive contract with the company.
While T.O.P. will be featured on the band’s upcoming single and will continue to join Big Bang “any time if he is available,” the company said the artist is looking to develop his career as an artist and entrepreneur. Though the group originally consisted of five members including T.O.P., G-Dragon, Taeyang, Daesung, and Seungri, Seungri announced his retirement from the entertainment industry in 2019 amidst his involvement in K-Pop’s largest sex scandal surrounding Burning Sun, a famous nightclub in Seoul. In August 2021, Seungri was sentenced to three years in prison for crimes including organising embezzlement, prostitution, and bribery.
Big Bang is known as one of the most influential K-Pop groups in the world, producing multiple hits throughout the late 2000s and 2010s and paving the way for many Korean artists today. “Last Farewell,” “Haru Haru,” and “Lies” are among the band’s most famous songs.
