“Avatar: The Way of Water”: The Details Will Make Waiting Over 10 Years Worth It
It’s been a long time since “Avatar” landed in theatres. Over a decade, in fact, since it came out in 2009. The movie takes place 150 years from now when humans, who have completely depleted Earth’s natural resources, travel to the fictional moon of Pandora to mine for resources, kicking off a war with the Na’vi, the moon’s inhabitants, a species of 10-feet-tall humanoid aliens. The movie went on to become the highest-grossing movie of all time. While James Cameron’s film was supposed to get a sequel a long time ago, production was delayed on the big-budget feature. The time has finally come, though, for “Avatar 2” to be seen by the world, and new details were just revealed at this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas, as well as the trailer. Though the movie is still pretty vague to audiences, we’ll certainly learn more in the coming months before the movie is officially released. Here’s everything we know so far about this long-awaited sequel, including some of the new talent joining the cast.
When Does "Avatar 2" Come Out?
“Avatar: The Way of Water” is scheduled to release on Dec. 16. It has been delayed several times over the past several years but finally has a firm release date. More sequels are scheduled to come out in the coming years as well, according to Newsweek.
Who Is in the "Avatar 2" Cast?
Much of the cast of the 2009 film are returning for “Avatar: The Way of Water,” including Sam Worthington as Jake Sully and Zoe Saldana as Neytiri. Sigourney Weaver as Dr. Grace Augustine and Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch are also returning for this film. We’ll also see some new faces, according to The Hollywood Reporter, including Vin Diesel, Edie Falco, Michelle Yeoh, and Kate Winslet.
What Is "Avatar 2" About?
“Avatar: The Way of Water,” which, according to THR, is a 3D movie, will focus on the Sully family. The official synopsis of the film reveals the movie takes place a decade after the first one and dives into the dangers and drama the Sullys are facing and everything they go through to protect each other.
At CinemaCon in Las Vegas in April, producer Jon Landau was on hand to discuss the upcoming movie and its following sequels. “At the centre of each of the four sequels will be the Sully family,” he said, according to Deadline. “Each story will be a stand-alone and each will come to its own conclusion,” he said, adding that there will be a “fulfilling resolution to each film, but when looked at as a whole the journey across all four will create a larger epic saga.”
