During the final moments of the “Australian Idol” finale, Dylan Wright made history. In an incredibly tight race against the country singer Denvah Baker-Moller and the powerhouse Amy Reeves, Dylan’s smooth vocals got the most votes. The crowd erupted in applause when he was declared 2024’s “Australian Idol”.
For Dylan, this moment was life-changing beyond belief. Not only did he win $100,000 in prize money, he also won a recording contract with Sony Music Entertainment Australia.
At the time, this win overwhelmed Dylan with emotions. He was experiencing so much joy that he was only able to muster a few words.
“Thank you,” Dylan said, “I’m about to cry, thanks.”
Since then, Dylan has had a bit of time to reflect on his “Australian Idol” win. However, he’s still overwhelmed. In an interview with POPSUGAR Australia, Dylan said that he found the whole night rather extraordinary.
“I’m just still overwhelmed by it all, and it still hasn’t sunk in,” Dylan said. “It feels so surreal. But I’m so excited to get started on the next chapter.”
Fortunately though, while this night was surreal, Dylan remembers all the key details. Additionally, Dylan knows what he wants to do next.
Dylan Wright’s “Australian Idol” Support
According to Dylan Wright, the most meaningful moment of the “Australian Idol” finale was having all of his biggest supporters beside him. In the crowd, he had over 60 friends and family cheering him on. Dylan was particularly grateful that his wife, Georgia Wright, had his back.
“She was the leader of the pack,” Dylan said. “She is my rock.”
As a couple, Dylan and Georgia have two kids, Piper, aged four, and Rivi, aged one. At the “Australian Idol” finale, Piper was in attendance. However, while Dylan was grateful for Piper’s support, he’s not sure how much she understood.
As Dylan explained, “I think she was yelling, ‘Go, Dad, go!’ She was also running around in the confetti. She was just loving life.”
Dylan wants to repay his family for all the support they have given him. He wants to use some of his prize money to take them on a camping trip.
“My wife and daughters and I need a little holiday,” Dylan said. “So I think we’ll have a little camping trip, just to kind of ground ourselves again and take it all in. It’s really important that we can just be a family for a week or so.”
Dylan Wright’s Final “Australian Idol” Performances
Dylan Wright also vividly remembers his last “Australian Idol” performances. In the finale, Dylan performed his audition song, “Better Be Home Soon” by Crowded House. During his performance, Dylan was able to reflect on how much he’s grown as an artist.
“I put the same amount of emotions in both performances,” Dylan said. “But during the finale, I was just drinking in each second of that song. I was thinking about how it was going to be the last time I was performing on that stage. So I just had the biggest smile on my face. I was looking into the crowd, seeing my family and friends in the audience. It was incredible to see where I’ve come from.”
Dylan then went on to perform his newest single, “Paper Heart”. The lyrics of this song depict a blooming relationship and describe how it feels to achieve the impossible. According to Dylan, “Paper Heart” tells the story of his time on “Australian Idol”.
“It’s about my ‘Australian Idol’ journey,” Dylan said. “It’s a bookend to a chapter of my life. It’s about going on to the next one. The song also thanks my family and friends for supporting me on this journey.”
“I can’t believe it’s been released. I got to write some of it, which was super special as well. I really love this track.”
What’s Next for the “Australian Idol” Dylan Wright?
Now that Dylan Wright has won the “Australian Idol” finale, he’s excited to start touring and get into the studio. Both of these prospects seem equally exciting to him.
If you want to apply for the next season of “Australian Idol”, Dylan has some words of wisdom. He thinks you need to take a leap of faith.
“Apply, go for it,” Dylan said. “I never thought that I would take that leap and actually get on the show, but I’m so happy I did.”
“You never stop learning. You can just get so much from other people who have been in the industry, you can learn so much from other contestants. I think if you have the inkling to apply, do it. Just take that leap, and do it.”
