New Superhero Alert: Anthony Ramos Joins Marvel's “Ironheart”
The Marvel Cinematic Universe might have gained a new superhero. Anthony Ramos, known for his role as Usnavi de la Vega in “In the Heights,” has signed on for a key role in Disney+’s “Ironheart” series, according to “Variety.” Ramos’s role in the upcoming superhero series remains a mystery, but the possibility that Thor and Captain America will gain a new ally isn’t far out of reach. If he is cast as a superhero, Ramos would be one of Marvel’s first Latinx live-action heroes alongside Oscar Isaac as Steven Grant in “Moon Knight.”
Little is known about Ramos’s character, but he’s expected to play “a big role” in the series as a recurring character, according to Deadline. Ramos will also star alongside Dominique Thorne, who will play Riri Williams, a 15-year-old MIT student and genius inventor. In the comics, Riri, whose appearance is modeled after Skai Jackson, catches Tony Stark’s attention by upgrading his Iron Man suit and eventually becomes a superhero herself.
The “Ironheart” series was first announced during Disney’s investor-day presentation in December 2020 and is currently in development with Chinaka Hodge as a potential head writer for the show. The project is one of several upcoming Marvel releases on Disney+, along with “Secret Invasion,” “Ms. Marvel,” “She-Hulk,” “Echo,” and a “WandaVision” spin-off series inspired by Agatha Harkness.
Also known for his roles as John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in “Hamilton” and Ramon in “A Star Is Born,” Ramos was recently tapped for a role in “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.” With such a stacked schedule, we can’t wait to hear what he has in store for us with his new Marvel role.
