This summer is all about eyes. While masks will be a necessity for a while longer — making lipstick wearing a little bit harder — the options for decorating your eyes are endless. This doesn’t just mean eyeshadow either, eyeliner is a fun way to up your makeup game, especially when you introduce different coloured liners.
Pinterest has recently seen a 40 per cent increase in searches for ‘red eyeliner’, which is a surefire sign that you’re going to be seeing this trend everywhere in the coming months. While red liner isn’t a new concept — we still love Willow Smith’s crimson coloured cat-eye from the Chanel Paris Cosmopolite Metiers D’Art show in Tokyo in 2017 — it’s also not an obvious choice for many people.
Instead of opting for your usual black liner, why not try a red shade to draw more attention to your eyes. Given red isn’t the most run of the mill eyeliner colour, it can be hard to find an effective pencil, so we recommend Fenty Beauty’s Flypencil Longwear Pencil Eyeliner ($33) in the shade Cherry Punk, which imparts a highly pigmented and creamy colour to your eyes in a formula that is both smudge and water-resistant.
If you’re a fan of liquid eyeliner products rather than a pencil, you can’t go past Sephora Collection’s Intense Ink Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner ($24) in the shade Satin Dusty Rose. The gel-ink formula is easy to apply and one stroke leaves high impact colour. This product allows for buildable liner application thanks to the felt-tip applicator that bends like a brush.
To give the look an extra bit of oomph, you might also consider looking into brow lamination, which is basically like perming your brow hairs. Pinterest has seen a 60 per cent increase in searches for ‘eyebrow lamination’, which helps make your brows look more full and fluffy.
The same goes for your eyelashes, with searches for ‘wispy eyelash extensions’ experiencing a 95 per cent increase over a four week period on Pinterest. With red eyeliner, wispy long lashes and bold fluffy brows, your eyes will be turning heads all season.
