You know how Dyson Airwraps and Shark FlexStyle tools completely changed the hair curling game? Well, this new product is like that, but instead of working on curls, it works on colour. It’s called POD by Ecoheads and is basically a concentrated hair product delivered by water.
It can add colour to your hair, tone it or treat it — without any damage and in less than 10 minutes. The result lasts 8-12 washes. It’s currently available in over 60 salons across Australia, which you can find here (POD salon finder).
“POD balances innovation, performance and creativity with a core belief in sustainability and water conservation,” says Lauren McCowan, Creative Brand Director of POD by Ecoheads.
“It’s an entirely new category in hair that will transform not just how we colour hair in the salon, but also the impact we have on what we are washing down the drain and what our skin absorbs.”
While it works well to colour and tone hair, it also provides high shine and gloss to those with darker hair or anyone looking for a deep treatment.
Some scenarios where you’d use a POD by Ecohead include a brunette needing a gloss and treatment, someone with balayage ends wanting to remove their yellow tones and you simply want to rock a shade of pastel pink hair for a few weeks. The pods can also help those with copper hair deepen its colour depth and others with strawberry blonde hair want it to be creamier.
The treatment works in three steps, using pods and an attachment shower head: The Prep, The Tone and The Sealer. The Prep is a mild cleanser that lifts the hair cuticle layer. This is followed by The Tone, which deposits one of 22 shades, each infused with oils, amino acids and butter. The shade settles deep into the hair cuticle. Finally, the service is finished with The Sealer that seals the cuticle.
“Every part of the POD system is designed to improve the hair quality,” says McCowan. “It uses a completely new way of lifting the hair cuticle — without needing a developer, as well as ionic bonding of the micro-colour pigments – which lets it embed colour without causing damage.”
According to McCowan, the product is the way of the future. And while you can currently only get it at one of the 60 salons in Australia that have it, an at-home version is on the horizon.
“There is a whole new world of improved water pressure and quality while saving water usage at home coming soon,” says McCowan. “But that’s all we can say right now.”
