If you haven’t joined Benny Perez (Jorge Lendeborg Jr.) on a thrilling late-night drive with Blaire (Debby Ryan) and Zoe (Lucy Fry) in Night Teeth yet, there’s still time to watch it on Netflix. The movie may have come out right before Halloween, but it’s the type of fun, action-packed thriller you can watch year-round. The drama that unfolds over the course of a single night is packed with vampires, an old rivalry, light romance, and some save-worthy beauty looks to round it out.
While the movie primarily follows Blaire and Zoe’s adventures, fellow vampires Grace (Megan Fox) and Eva (Sydney Sweeney) make an appearance, and each has a very distinct look. When it comes to their personalities, Zoe, Grace, and Eva are incredibly bold while Blaire is much more innocent, and that plays out in their hair and makeup.
Ahead, the show’s head hairstylist, Natalie Rose, breaks down the inspiration for each character in Night Teeth.

The Beauty Inspiration Behind Debby Ryan's Character, Blaire
It was important to Rose and director Adam Randall that Zoe and Blaire looked like “they came from the same world” but with their own decided look, just as sisters often do.
“Blaire’s character is softer and younger in vampire years than Zoe, which is why we decided to have her hair down in soft waves and I wanted a pop of color in her hair to catch the light,” Rose told POPSUGAR. They landed on rose gold tips (because it was a trending color at the time), and a shag haircut that felt reminiscent of the ’70s – a decade Blaire references with fondness during a conversation with Benny. To keep the hair color looking fresh throughout filming, the team relied on L’Oréal Colorrista 1-Day Spray in Rose Gold ($10).

The Beauty Inspiration Behind Lucy Fry's Character, Zoe
Although best friends, Zoe is completely different from Blaire. “Her character was much more impulsive and dangerous than Blaire,” said Rose. “I wanted to incorporate her personality into her hairstyle, along with a reflection of different looks that she would have seen [and] worn in prior decades.”
Zoe makes a point of telling Benny in a gas station market, “You can’t be alive for 200 years and not go a little crazy.” To reflect that, Zoe’s hairstyle incorporates a dramatic comb-over with mega volume à la the ’80s with a chain woven into a braid on one side of her head.

The Beauty Inspiration Behind Jorge Lendeborg Jr.'s Character Benny
Benny, the college student and aspiring DJ turned stand-in chauffeur, ends up playing a crucial role in Blaire and Zoe’s plan. While nothing in particular probably stands out about his look (an intentional choice), that doesn’t mean there wasn’t a lot of thought and consideration put into it. Rose wanted to keep Jorge’s natural texture and worked with him on finding a haircut that would look good without looking expensive or super involved because “his character was young, innocent, carefree, and didn’t have a lot of money,” she said.

The Beauty Inspiration for Sydney Sweeney's Character, Eva
Head vampires Eva and Grace only make a brief appearance, in the movie but it’s still impactful and instrumental in the plot. Eva’s hair resembled Zoe’s but in a slightly more sophisticated and pared back way.
“Eva was very much like an older [and] more mature version of Zoe,” said Rose. “Still very violent and unpredictable, but with a similar edge to her look, and we wanted her hairstyle to reflect that.” But aside from just looking edgy, Eva’s hairstyle – beachy waves with a deep side part and a small braid tucked behind her ear- played a role in the plot as well. “We added the braid in her hair to hold the red jeweled weapon we hid within it,” said Rose.

The Beauty Inspiration for Megan Fox's Character, Grace
Just as Eva was a more mature version of Zoe, Grace was like a more glamorous version of Blaire. “She was much older and more mature than the rest of them,’ said Rose. Fox’s personal hairstylist did her hair for the film, and in keeping with her character’s personality, they used old Hollywood glam photos to inspire her alluring and classic look.

A Hidden Hair Secret That the Hairstylists Hope You Miss
Aside from Eva’s weapon-hiding braid, there’s one other hair secret that Rose hopes no one picks up on in Night Teeth: the strategic use of a wig. Netflix had to shut down production due to COVID-19 when the film had one night left of shooting and when they finally picked back up, Lucy was starting another project. “We had a wig custom made for Lucy because she was going straight onto another show after we wrapped, and it would’ve been too hard on her hair to have it highlighted for the few weeks that we were shooting in L.A.,” said Rose. While wigs are standard on many movie sets, Rose explained: “it is really difficult to wig a main actress for the last few weeks of shooting and have it match so perfectly.”
Rose collaborated with wigmaker Rob Pickens to create the perfect dupe for Zoe’s dramatic hairstyle. “Most of the people on set weren’t even aware that she was wearing a wig because it looked so natural,” she said.
