WorldPride is right around the corner, and if you’re booked in to see Charli XCX, Kelly Rowland, and Kim Petras, you’re probably wondering how you can bring your beauty A-game to the biggest party of the year.
If there’s ever a time to break out your most colourful makeup palettes (currently collecting dust in your bottom draw) it’s now. Below, we’re serving you inspiration so you can serve during Pride.
Last Days of Disco
Frosted blue is the shade of 2023, and WorldPride is an event-appropriate time to trial the washed denim trend. This makeup looks intimidating, but it only involves two products and a couple of brushes. Use a loose shimmer shadow wet — Molloy used Karla Cosmetics, Pastel Duochrome Loose Eyeshadow in Ribbon ($37) — then carve out your shape with a long wear blue eye pencil. We love Fenty Beauty, Flypencil Longwear Eyeliner in Sea About It ($35). Blend with a blue shadow and you’re done.
Sexy Alien
Not vibing glitter? A well-placed pearl can add an alienesque twist to the most sophisticated slay. Here, MUA Selena Ruiz served some classic baddie beauty with Pat McGrath makeup, complete with siren eye and a two-toned lip, before bringing an underground editorial edge with well-placed pearls. Cosmetic pearls are easier to find on land than on the sea — but make sure you opt for a self-adhesive set with plenty of sizing options. That way, you can customise your look without worrying about globs of glue ruining your sultry vibes. Check out these cheap and cheerful options.
Freckles and Lashes
Beauty doesn’t have to be complicated to be striking — as demoed by MUA Amber Dreadon and hair stylist Sheridan Ward. Dreadon used Freck Beauty, Lash Rocket Mascara ($44) for spikey, Twiggy-esque lashes, and dotted on natural freckles with Freck OG, The Original Freckle ($37).
Blocked Out Brows and Water Colour Eyes
Trust Isamaya French and It-Girl Gabriette Bechtel to show us how to make sweet pastel beauty a little more grunge. Again, this look uses three colours on the eyes. Grab Juvia’s Place, Culture Eyeshadow Palette ($36) which has every colour you could need for this look, and any others you can think of. To add some edge, block out your brows, grab your favourite bold lip, and line with smudgy black kohl.
Make a Mess
Perfection is out, chaos is in, and we love a look that combines high glam, grunge, and a little “Euphoria” sparkle. Marinated makeup is one of the biggest trends of 2023 and involves flushed cheeks, blurred lips and smudgy eye makeup that looks like it’s dissolving on the spot. Apply your base as usual for this look, pile on the blush and mascara, and then add random slashes of silver chrome and scary-looking studs. Any lover of an xxxxtra glam look should never be without the Makeup By Mario, Master Metals Eyeshadow Palette ($78). Any shadow in here can be used wet or dry to create a creamy or sparkly finish. If you can’t justify an investment in a whole palette, try the Sephora Collection, Colorful Magnetic Eyeshadow in Diamond Crushed ($14) and sketch out your shape with the Maybelline, Tattoo Gel Liner 961 in Sparkling Silver ($8). High quality “metal wear” face studs seen here are a little harder to come by, but if you’re committed, place an order with Half Magic Beauty (created by the brains behind the “Euphoria” beauty looks). As a bonus, they’ll have pretty much everything you need to create the looks above.
