5 Non-Greasy, White Cast-Free Sunscreens Our Editors Use Daily
Sunscreen is one of the most important skincare products you can use and we’re guessing, from anecdotal evidence, one of the most underused. This product shouldn’t just be saved for days spent at the beach or picnics in the park, but rather for everyday, much like moisturiser.
If the reason you don’t use sunscreen every morning is that it evokes childhood memories of thick, white paste that never seems to rub in properly and stings your eyes, we totally get it. And, we’re happy to report that sunscreen has come a long way since those days.
In fact, there are a number of SPF products that are specifically designed for your face and feel more like a primer-meets-moisturiser than they do sunscreen. If you’re in need of some sunscreen-related inspiration, look no further than these five SPF products that our team swear by and use on a daily basis.
Valentina, Managing Editor: Ultra Violette Supreme Screen SPF50+ ($49) + Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face SPF50+ ($42)
Ultra Violette’s Supreme Screen sits nicely under makeup and means I can skip moisturiser and primer because it has all of the good stuff in there. I love multitasking products where I can skip a few steps to save time. On days where I’m not wearing makeup, I use the Mecca Cosmetica’s To Save Face SP50+.
I like that it doesn’t leave a white cast and feels more like a moisturiser than a sunscreen. It doesn’t smell like a typical sunscreen either. I like that it offers high protection and comes in a little tube that’s easy to throw in your bag so you can reply especially on days at the beach. I have oily/combo skin and both of these products don’t leave me feeling oily after application which is a bonus.
Sangeeta, Lifestyle Editor: CeraVe AM Facial Moisturising Lotion ($32.95) + Cancer Council Face Day Wear Moisturiser ($13.50)
I wear CeraVe AM or Cancer Council’s Face Day Wear Moisturiser Matte on the face. The Cancer Council one is good (obviously, I trust it for protection) but the cream does separate so I have to shake the tube before I use it. I also started using Naked Sundays Glow Body Mist ($44.95) on my body — it has watermelon extract in it so it smells so good and the spray makes it really easy to apply.
Basmah, Entertainment Producer: Ultra Violette Queen Screen SPF50+ ($47)
Ultra Violette’s Queen Screen isn’t greasy, doesn’t make me break out and doesn’t leave a weird grey cast on my medium skin tone. Oh, and it’s SPF 50+!
Lyndsey, Entertainment Editor: Tatcha Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen ($117.50)
Tatcha’s Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen works so well under makeup and doesn’t clog pores!
Alexandra, Beauty & Wellness Editor: Naked Sundays Collagen Glow Creme ($34.95)
I’m pretty passionate about sunscreen so I have a few favourite products that I use. On a day-to-day basis (yes, I wear sunscreen every single day — no matter the weather), I swap between Ultra Violette’s Supreme Screen and Mecca Cosmetica’s To Save Face. These both layer really well under makeup and I don’t experience any pilling.
When I really want to amp up the glow, I reach for the Naked Sundays SPF50+ Collagen Glow Creme, which adds a lovely radiance to the skin and looks great under makeup. When it comes to solid all-rounder facial sunscreens, I always have a tube of the Bondi Sands SPF50+ Fragrance-Free Face Sunscreen Lotion ($14.95) on hand as well. It’s perfect to wear for a day at the beach, or if you’re going to be out and about in the sun for a large chunk of the day.
