Exactly How to Recreate 5 of the Best Oscars Beauty Looks

The 2022 Oscars delivered on drama, fashion, glamour and a bounty of eye-catching beauty looks. We’ve curated our favourites among them, along with the products and techniques that will help you nail them.

Demi Singleton: Watercolour Beauty

Demi Singleton floored in a lavender Miu Miu sheath gown, and a beauty look that Chanel makeup artist Tasha Reiko Brown described as “watercolour” inspired. The look was achieved by layering sheer products, from glosses and balms to powders, to achieve a multi-dimensional, opalescent glow.

Brown prepped Demi Singleton’s complexion with Chanel skincare using N°1 de ChanelRevitalizing Serum ($165.00) and N°1 de Chanel Revitalizing Cream ($165.00).

Singleton’s base was luminous and fresh, Brown used Chanel Le Blanc Base Lumiere Primer ($65.00) and N°1 de Chanel Revitalizing Foundation ($110.00).

Brown then strategically spot concealed with the brand’s long-wear concealer for a super natural finish. She added Les Beiges Healthy Glow Highlighting Fluid in Sunkissed ($91.00) before setting where necessary with Chanel’s Natural Finish Loose Powder in Shade 121 ($87.00).

Singleton’s eyes stole the show with a sheer wash of luminescent colour. Brown started with a liquid shadow — Chanel’s Ombre Premier Laque in Vastness ($52.00) a russet red shadow.

Hot tip: Using a cream or liquid shadow leaves a translucent veil on the lids rather than an overly powdered look.

Brown then worked black liner in the lash liner and added lashings of black mascara with the Dimension Ultimes de Chanel Mascara ($58.00)

Lips were kept fresh with Chanel Rouge Allure L’Extrait in Brun 828 a hydrating tawny plum, tragically unavailable in Australia (try Chantecaille Lip Chic in Damask ($58.00) topped with Rouge CoCo Gloss in Excitation ($55.00), a golden shimmer “topcoat” gloss.

Chanel’s cult-favourite Le Baume De Chanel Highlighter stick in Golden Light ($71.00) was used on cheeks to give a “wet look” shine with a bronze reflect while a rosy powder blush (602 Rose Ruban) was given an extra kick of colour with the N°1 Chanel Cheek and Lip Balm in Berry Boost ($75.00).

Maddie Ziegler: Matte Magic

The 19-year-old star made her Oscars debut in Pat McGrath makeup — with artist Mary Phillips creating a monochrome matte look.

Mary worked from the Mothership’s VII Divine Rose Collection Palette ($205.00) applied a wash of matte plum shadow in Velouria, before adding black liner and smoking out the eye with a deep burgundy brown shade Xtreme Mahagony. She then highlighted with golden pearl Skinshow Nude for a simple smokey eye.

Blush and highlighter were added from the Divine Blush + Glow Trio: Love at First Blush Trio ($78.00) part of Pat McGrath’s Bridgerton collection. For lips, she lined with PermaGel Ultra Lip Pencil in “Structure” before finishing with Matte Trance lipstick in 1995 ($58.00).

Maddie’s brows were left bare in a nod to the skinny brow trend — Phillips merely brushed them up.

Zoe Kravitz: Modern Hepburn

It wouldn’t be a best of beauty round-up without Zoe Kravitz. “The Batman” star turned Hepburnesque in a pale-pink Saint Laurent confection. Hairstylist Nikki Nelms chopped a micro-fringe paired with a slicked up-do, that perfectly framed Chanel makeup artist Nina Parks‘ work. Park kept the look glossy and monochromatic.

Kravitz’s base was close to translucent, allowing her freckles to show through. We suspect Chanel Water Beiges Tint ($110.00) paired with a spot-conceal. Cheeks were warm and rosy as were lips — recreate this subtle flush with a blush like Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Mood Exposure ($64.00), a warm-toned, medium mauve with a satin finish. Park kept Kravitz’s eyes and cheeks in harmony, sweeping blush across the lids. A soft kitten-wing, using a brown shadow gave the eyes definition without overpowering the dreamy femininity of the overall look.

Kravitz’s brows were as full as ever, despite the current popularity of the skinny brow. Kravitz proves that when it comes to your arches, sometimes it’s best to avoid passing trends.

Lupita Nyong’o: Red Carpet Royalty

Lupita Nyong’o’s gold fringe Miu Miu gown was a red-carpet favourite — and her gold-toned beauty look complemented it perfectly. Lancôme makeup artist Nick Barose used Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation ($55.00) for a full coverage, satin finish long-wear base. He then used the Lancome Hypnose eyeshadow palette in Reflet D’Amythste ($90.00). The final touch? Real gold leaf to perfectly accent Lupita’s dazzling gold gown, and a slick of red lipstick.

Lupita has worked with hairstylist Vernon François since Nyong’o became a red-carpet regular. François told British Vogue that Nyong’o’s sisterlocked up-do was inspired by African figures in classical Greek art. He also worked with the design of her Prada dress to create a statement look in sympathy with her regal gown.

He said: “The asymmetrical, hand-sculpted shape echoes the floral design in Lupita’s dress while elongating her neckline.” François worked with Matrix’s Miracle Creator Multi-Tasking Leave-In Treatment ($21.88) as he used a combination of twisting, locing, braiding and weaving techniques for the sculptural look. He said, “the artistry creates the illusion of fluidity.”

Zendaya: The DIY Queen

She did this herself? Nuff said. Zendaya confirmed on her Instagram stories that she was behind this flawless beauty look. The “Dune” star posted: “Every now and then I do my own beat” tagging Lancome makeup. The star regularly does her own makeup for premiers and launches, which only makes us love her more. While she didn’t confirm products in her stories, we suspect Zendaya used the Lancome Smokey Chic 5 Quad Eyeshadow Palette ($90.00) for the perfect pop of silver in her smokey eye (which tied in perfectly with her chrome manicure).
