The Best Hair, Nail and Makeup Moments of the 2023 Met Gala
The Met Gala is one of the most exciting events on the calendar for fashion and beauty watchers. After much anticipation, it’s finally underway. This year’s theme was a controversial choice: a celebration of Karl Lagerfeld’s life and work. Lagerfeld had a prolific career at Fendi, Chloé, Balmain and Patou. He became a household name through his work at Chanel, producing his first collection in 1984 and working at the house until his death in 2019.
We can expect plenty of the aforementioned labels on the red carpet today, but how the theme will be interpreted for beauty remains to be seen.

Last year, the bar was set high. The aesthetic at the 2022 Met Gala was described as “gilded glamour” and looks were inspired by the opulent 1800s and drew inspiration from the age of the Industrial Revolution. Our favourite moments included cascading curls from Kaia Gerber, diamante encrusted skinny brows, finger waves from Jodi Turner-Smith, and Blake Lively‘s regal princess moment. Hair accessories were everywhere. Sparkling dos featured tiaras, oversized crystal barrets and diamante-laced braids and buns.
We’re anticipating nods to Lagerfeld’s legacy will see more restrained hair, nail and beauty looks. But we’re ready to be surprised! Keep scrolling to peep all the best beauty looks.
Sydney Sweeney
Sydney Sweeney went for voluminous hair in a side part, topped with an oversized black bow.
Miranda Kerr
For the event, Kerr wore a bedazzled, A-line dress with a diamond choker. In line with the fairytale-feel of the outfit, she wore her hair in a big bun with two loose pieces of hair framing her face. She completed her beauty look with a dark lip, rosy cheeks and heavy mascara.
Kendall Jenner
No doubt Jenner’s glass-look skin at the event will long serve as inspiration. She completed her face with a rosy lip and natural eye makeup. Her hair was straightened and slicked back into a ’60s high pony.
Kylie Jenner
Kylie Jenner kept her beauty look minimal so the focus would remain on her red, asymmetrical dress. She side-parted her hair and pinned it up, with some face-framing locks out on one side.
Phoebe Bridgers
Bridgers went with a dusty pink lip, thick black liner and a shimmer eyeshadow that matched her signature grey hair. She pulled her hair into a loose up-do, with a few face-framing pieces and a black headband.
Emma Chamberlain
Chamberlain opted for pale blue eyeshadow that matched her suit and headband, which pulled back her sleek blow-out away from her face.
Penélope Cruz
Cruz went heavy on the cheek highlighter and bronzer, which gives her a dewy look. She topped the look off with thick mascara and natural lipstick.
Lila and Kate Moss
Kate Moss and her 20-year-old daughter Lila posed together on the red carpet. Kate’s beauty look was her signature dark eye, nude lip and loose waves, while Lila went for a brown smoky eye with her slicked hair out and middle parted. A few baby hairs were pulled out and slicked against her forehead.
Emily Ratajkowski
Ratajkowski showed off a new straight fringe, complemented by tight curls. Her smoky eye is in contrast to her dewy skin and nude lip.
Olivia Wilde
Olivia Wilde went for a light make-up look, with a nude lip, glowing skin and mascara that makes her blue eyes pop.
Dua Lipa
One of the 2023 Met Gala’s celebrity co-chairs, Dua Lipa went for a rosy lip, defined cat eye and loose waves through her inky black hair.
