15 Beauty Trends From Fashion Week You’ll Actually Want to Try
- New York Fashion Week not only previews fashion trends but beauty trends as well.
- This season saw colorful hair accessories, whimsical eye makeup, and innovative nail art.
- We’re breaking down the NYFW beauty trends you’ll actually want to wear.
As much as we look forward to spotting the season’s best new trends every time Fashion Week rolls around, we can’t help but zoom in on the tiny details that make the outfits come together. No, we’re not talking about the bicep jewelry or oversize purses – we mean the beauty details.
Your hair, nails, and makeup can add that finishing touch that makes any ensemble look good (or at least make you feel that way), and the beauty looks at New York Fashion Week were no exception. A sleek, high ponytail added a sophisticated edge to a black two-piece suit. A swipe of soft pastel nail polish took a fringe dress from edgy to flirty. The biggest impact is in the details when it comes to fashion.
Now that we’re nearing the end of New York Fashion Week, we’re breaking down the best hair, makeup, and nail moments from the last few days. The best part: each one is so easy to wear, they could never just be relegated to the runway. From twiste bun hairstyles and floating eyeliner to aura nails and everything in between, here are the most wearable beauty trends from New York Fashion Week 2023.
New York Fashion Week Nail Trend: Patterned French Manicure
The french manicure has already cemented itself as a crowd favorite over the last few years, and nowhere was that more apparent than on the streets during New York Fashion Week. This year we saw an especially vibrant variety of interchangeable designs, like this dark patterned look.
New York Fashion Week Makeup Trend: Floating Eyeliner
You may have seen floating eyeliner trending before, but you can expect the look to stick around for months to come. The eye look is perfect for accentuating your natural eye shape, as well as providing a pop of color to an outfit. (Or, you can keep it neutral with a white or black look, as shown here.)
New York Fashion Week Hair Trend: Microbangs
Microbangs were front and center throughout the week and are a perfect transitional look as you enter the colder months. “Microbangs can add flair to any hairstyle and work on all hair types – super curly, pin straight, updos, pixies, long, short, thick, thin, box braids, Afro,” Devin Toth, a hairstylist at Salon SCK in New York City, previously told POPSUGAR.
New York Fashion Week Hair Trend: Barrettes
Industrial-looking barrettes were spotted on the city streets, adding a structured finish to sleek hair looks and numerous outfits. We loved the twists on the trend that added something extra, like these charm additions.
New York Fashion Week Nail Trend: Cow-Print Nails
The Y2K-inspired pattern made a comeback this NYFW, only this time it’s not on as your phone case or down the side of your denim jeans. Rather, cow-print nails are the perfect way to subtly mix prints without being overwhelming.
New York Fashion Week Hair Trend: Wire Ponytails
Hair accessories are timeless, but cool factor comes in when you give a basic beauty look an unexpected twist – like this wire-spun ponytail holder that starts at the base of the pony and makes it way all the way to the mid-ends.
New York Fashion Week Makeup Trend: Diffused Lip
Obviously lined lips have has been seeing a resurgence, but the trend we saw during NYFW landed on the opposite end of the spectrum: “diffused” lipstick. It features slightly faded and blended edges, lending a softer feel to your overall makeup look.
New York Fashion Week Nail Trend: Half-Moon Glitter Nails
Half-moon nails – where the polish at the cuticle round differs from the rest of the nail – have been making a comeback already, but the look at Markarian felt especially celestial. Created by nail brand Essie, manicurists backstage, used silver and gold flecks like the Nail Polish in Summit of Style ($10).
New York Fashion Week Hair Trend: Twisted Buns
New takes on the twisted bun hairstyle were all over the streets of Fashion Week (as you can see here) as well as the runways. The latter of which saw multiple iterations of the trend, from sleek and elegant at Christian Siriano to architectural at Tia Adeola to tight and accessorized at Badgley Mischka, and more.
New York Fashion Week Nail Trend: Sweater Nails
The best way to welcome in the cozy vibes with your nail art? These ombré sweater nails, which spotlight the knitted pattern on each finger. Wear only if you want your manicure to also double as a fashion statement.
New York Fashion Week Hair Trend: Braid Piercings
Hairstylists at the House of Mua Mua, and using Beachwaver Co products, took braids to the next level in 90s-inspired fashion, using hair jewelry throughout. Our favorite iterations featured braid piercings that punctuated the style perfectly.
New York Fashion Week Makeup Trend: Indie Sleaze
“Indie sleaze” makeup is everywhere right now, and the grunge-inspired, slept-in eyeliner and lip look graced the runways of Alice and Olivia (courtesy of Too Faced Cosmetics, shown here) and L’agence (courtesy of Stila).
New York Fashion Week Nail Trend: Swirl Nails
Swirl nails are kicking off spring in the best way. Prime example? This take on the trend featuring detailed line art. The combination of the ’90s supermodel base between the lines on each finger create a negative-space manicure that’s chic yet attention-grabbing.
New York Fashion Week Hair Trend: Thread Accessories
The ultimate “It girl” hair accessory? Thread. In this Fashion Week street style look, thread was woven throughout the hair to add a fun peekaboo effect to a traditional pigtail hairstyle.
New York Fashion Week Nail Trend: Aura Nails
New York Fashion Week street style is known for being just as legendary as the shows themselves, particularly when it comes to providing beauty inspiration. Case in point? These mystical neon aura nails that looked like they’ll reveal your innermost secrets. (Even Megan Fox is a fan of the trend.)
