Ashley Graham is channeling her inner Barbie girl. On Feb. 23, the model attended the Etro show at Milan Fashion Week wearing a trendy french manicure, sultry eye makeup with an inner-corner pop of color, and a fabulous orange-fur coat. The cherry on top of the already head-turning look? Her fun, retro Barbie ponytail created by hairstylist Mashal Afzalzada.
But this was no average Barbie ponytail: Graham’s hair was pulled into a half-up-half-down style with the lower half of her hair flowing over her shoulders. The top half was slicked back into a sleek ponytail with the ends flipped outward for a Barbie-inspired twist. To top it all off, Graham added side-swept bangs, which were sculpted with gel and pinned back into her ponytail.
The Barbie ponytail has been a cultural mainstay since the ’60s but has recently seen an uptick in popularity thanks to the upcoming “Barbie” movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Trendy hairstyle aside, the movie has sparked an entire Barbiecore trend, with the color pink taking over everything from clothing to hair. With the movie’s official premiere still a few months away, there’s plenty of time to hone your own Barbiecore aesthetic. Whether you want to tread lightly with some pink nails or fully dye your hair the bubble-gum hue, you’ll be perfectly on-trend. Take a closer look at Graham’s hair below.
