French manicures were busy ruling not just the American Music Awards red carpet over the weekend, but the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences 13th Governors Awards on Nov. 19 as well.
Among other A-list stars, Ana de Armas attended the award show in Los Angeles with a satin-skin makeup look, a sleek updo, and a “baby” french manicure in tow. This updated version of french tips is like its predecessor in every way but one: the “smile” line is much thinner. Instead of covering 1/3 or half of the nail, the lines on a baby french manicure sit at the very edge, making them the perfect nail-art option for short nails.
De Armas kept her nails short and square, opting for a white tip and translucent pink shade for the base. Though baby french manicures can be a classic, minimalist nail, you can also add fun pops of color to the look. Elevated twists on the trend include chrome (an iteration de Armas has donned in the past), glitter, and neon, so don’t be afraid to mix it up. See de Armas’s manicure up close below.
