Da Brat and Judy Harris-Dupart Welcome a Baby Boy: “He’s Perfect in Every Way”
After announcing her pregnancy back in February, Da Brat, 49, welcomed her first child, a baby boy, with wife Jesseca “Judy” Harris-Dupart in Atlanta on July 6, People exclusively confirmed. The couple’s newborn, who weighed in at seven pounds and eight ounces, joins Harris-Dupart’s three kids – sons Byron Jr. and Jay and daughter Deja – whom she had before their relationship.
“I can’t believe he came out of me!” the rapper told People. “Feels like a dream. He’s perfect in every way.” As for how Da Brat is feeling, she told the publication, “Very appreciative for such a blessing of our bundle of joy. This journey has been more amazing than we could’ve ever imagined.”
Of the tiny tot’s name, Harris-Dupart told People, “His name had been True Legend Harris-Dupart but now that we’ve met him we are tempted to name him Perfect.” According to People, though, the pair are sticking with True.
Da Brat (née Shawntae Harris) and Harris-Dupart’s child arrives a year after the pair got married in February 2022. Previously, the rap star opened up about the couple’s decision to start a family, telling People “it started as a joke” but their love for one another convinced them to have a baby.
“I never thought I was going to have kids,” Da Brat admitted to the outlet. “I just thought it wasn’t in the cards for me. I’ve had a great career, a full life. I felt like, because I didn’t get pregnant earlier on, then it just wasn’t going to happen for me.” However, being with her wife, Da Brat said she “started looking at life so differently.” “I was like, I want a little me with you,” she told Harris-Dupart. “Something special from the both of us that we can share and raise and love unconditionally.”
Da Brat also revealed that the pair’s parenthood journey got off to a rocky start on account of their health issues: Harris-Dupart suffered major complications following her egg retrieval procedure, and Da Brat underwent surgery to remove fibroids and polyps before her embryo transfer procedure. The So So Def rapper also had a pregnancy loss.
